Terrible ending to a terrible movie. So he wiped-out first attempt. If they really expect the audience to believe he somehow ignored all survival instincts and decided to pick up a rock and start running on the bottom of the ocean after a 2 wave hold-down to drown himself, than I wonder if maybe Charlie Sheen himself was writing the screenplay with his tiger blood for ink. That's gotta be the dumbest shit I ever seen. So he wiped-out first attempt, as any surfer would. Get back on the board you idiot and have another go. He still could've been the first to do it (according to the movie). What a moron.

You need to watch the movie again, it wasn't a flashback it was what he did at the end. Find the interview with the director and he tells you the same thing.

Whoever posted the video didn't watch the movie. He didn't get trapped on the sea floor (spoiler) he stayed there on purpose because he was ashamed that he wiped out and couldn't face the kid who looked up to him. when the guy dove down there he told him to go away and then he swam off.

He did try to stay down there on purpose , if you ever get a chance to watch the whole movie you'll see he was ashamed that he wiped out and couldn't face the kid again. and when they dove down to find him he swam away.

@jezmuff The surfer was disoriented from being tumbled underwater for a minute straight. I've been in that situation for 10 foot surf. the surf in the movie is at least 40 feet...

You can get this Song off the album The Woman's Boat by Toni Childs the song is called "womb" and i bought it off amazon for $4.00 hella cheap good song

@ShadowSly72 current of huge waves are powerful, you may be able to see someone through the water, but you may not be able to reach them... plus this is a movie and one of the guys was holding a rock... kind of defeats the purpose of trying to rise... however, in big surf like that surfers are trained (as a last resort) that if they can, grad a rock to keep themselves in one place and allow the swells to pass, than go for air... quickly... lol.
