Good Job Hibb 😀
ОтветитьI loved this video! That hardwood center employee was so patient and helpful. He gave you more assistance in 3 minutes than I've ever received from all Lowes or home depot employees that I've ever encountered in my whole life. That's just sad
ОтветитьThe effort of censoring is top tier.
ОтветитьI'm 70 and that was just a well thought out and
ОтветитьYou're one funny guy. I intend to make myself a River Table coffee table in the next summer. I get it no moisture or minimal.
ОтветитьI was sneaking through Xxxx Xxxxx and found others doing the same. Some were FBI, FSB and Mi6 (if you put any two of those names together I think you get a Canadian postal code) . I tried to be friendly but it went against their grain. Found a Hardwood place not too far away, and when it comes to FBI, FSB and Mi6 you can never be too far away.
ОтветитьMy local hardwood supplier exclusively sells by the pallet, so it’s not an option for me
ОтветитьGreat vid! About 6 minutes in it pauses for an advertisement cause I haven’t gone add free yet. It was one for the HOME DEPOT!!😅😅😅
ОтветитьYeah it helps man..thank you...
ОтветитьNo clue what uses the wood is for really at H deephole. It’s not homes! Builders buy from lumber companies for that. So that leaves sheds I guess or ...? It’s pretty fkn weird honestly
ОтветитьHaha. Reminds me of shop class 😊
ОтветитьThis guy is great 👍 and funny 😂
Ответитьspent a week looking for a lumber supplier before and had to give up and go to the big orange store. Didn't spend 2 minutes typing hardwood supplier before I found a local lumber supplier that had amazing ratings. Mildly irritated, but I do look forward to making a much better desk and not wasting more money on wood that's moist to the touch lol
ОтветитьLove how almost all the beeps are misplaced lol
ОтветитьI think this is one of my favorite videos you've ever made. Not because it was useful, which I'm sure it was for many, but because you went full geek. As an engineer, I absolutely loved it! The wood labelling/specification systems really are ridiculous.
ОтветитьI know it was just a tiny off topic tangent, but I went to school in Maryland. We had E's instead of F's. Everyone said it was just to "not hurt anyone's feelings", but I thought it was just the logical progression (and a failure hurts just as much, regardless of the letter used).
ОтветитьMid video ad was for, guess who?... HOME DEPOT😂😂
ОтветитьI think the reason newbies go to home depot is they can buy a board for x amount. Wood stores are usually by the ft and that is confusing and you dont want to end up spending more then you wanted to on a project you might mess up
ОтветитьGet big Jeb The Gardener vibes in the voicovers and I love it
ОтветитьEven if you just need basic lumber for nothing special, go to Lowe’s. I swear HD only carries wood Lowe’s rejects.
ОтветитьWhat was the cost comparison, in general, for a 3/4” 4x8 sheet of Baltic Birch Ply if HD is about $72?
ОтветитьNot everyone is lucky enough to have wonderful store or females, like myself, they make it seem like we’re wasting their time. So while I believe in supporting small businesses, is my preferred, if they refuse quality service, I’ll go to Home Depot where I actually get help. 🤷♀️
ОтветитьA few things you missed. Kiln dried hardwood is usually dried down to 6% moisture content, however lumber will eventually pick up moisture after being dried until it stabilizes with the ambient moisture in the air. This can vary, depending on where you are. If you are in Arizona, it might be 7%, in the San Francisco Bay area it is around 10%, it will vary from winter to summer also. When you are buying hardwood that is surfaced and straight line ripped, the mill looses lumber from the edge when they straight edge it. The seller will add 10% to the width to cover the loss. This is within the guidelines of the Hardwood Lumber association guidelines. Of course, the same goes for thickness. When you buy 8/4" lumber, and it's been milled to 1-3/4" net thickness, you will pay for 2" of wood. The other 1/4" got turned into shavings. On plywood grades, you mentioned A-A grade. You might be able to special order A-A grade ( for a lot more money ) but generally the grades that your local supplier will have in stock are A-1, A-4, B-1, C-2 and C-4. They may have a "Shop " grade plywood. This is often misunderstood. The plywood mills inspect every sheet after it comes off of the press. Is it has a defect it is stamped a shop panel. This doesn't take into account what grade they were shooting for. It could be a downfall/shop panel from a C-2 or an A-1 panel. The plywood mills sell the shop grade panels for 10% less than on grade panels. Great video, this is a big help to people who are getting into woodworking. The hardwood lumber at the big box stores is crazy expensive, the plywood is generally low grade crap, and of course there is very little selection.
ОтветитьThank you for this video. New to woodworking here and thinking about giving it a go.
Ответить$40 for a sheet of plywood 🤮
ОтветитьHOME DEPOT
ОтветитьThank you. Alot of stuff I knew already but alot of good stuff I didn't know.
Ответитьgo to recyclers. kids with little experience flipping houses like a goldrush is on. they tear down and dump good 2x4s, 2x6s in recycling mountains. go picking and get great solid wood almost for free
Ответить🤦♂️
ОтветитьWhen my deck was built, I had a local guy in a trailer with number 1 wood and free delivery and home depot had number 3 wood that cost more and a delivery charge. My neighbor who's a builder told me that number 1 wood has less knots than number 3.
ОтветитьWhen you go to bleeeeep you get ZZ plywood. Lol😂
ОтветитьLol this is a case where their branding really hurts themselves. Big orange hardware store, with orange carts, no amount of blurring the name was going to stop us from knowing that this is clearly a Lowe's.
ОтветитьSo… did you have to pay for that piece of wood you split further? 😂
ОтветитьI like the vid my man. We are a Sawmill, and a Hardwood Supplier in South Central Minnesota (North of the Twin Cities). I've been in our local "Big Box Store" and priced them out, and I've seen that they are sometimes 2X all the way up to 4X more $ per board foot. We also have a simple beginner's Lumber Buying Guide video. Check it out and tell me what you think in the comments. Not gonna spam, that would be rude. Good Luck Lumber Lovers!
ОтветитьPut a measuring tape on your Carhartts, put on a ball cap, and carry a black leather folder.
Say you're picking up the wood for the contract.
Some 16 year old will probably let you walk out with about 3 grand worth of stuff
I would love to see more of these videos. I am still a beginner and trying to learn and buy the right tools, wood, joinery and etc. One big issue right now is a new front shelf for my smoker. I bought some Hickory 3/4 SS3 boards and I am now starting to understand I am in for a very difficult journey and my tools are going to be upset too. Please send help!!!
ОтветитьFunny and informative!
ОтветитьWorth watching just for the comic value lol. Great content
ОтветитьYou didn't know!? The Lowe's guy told me that if you just cut the bent/warped board then it will flatten out! True story
Ответитьhow would you flatten the other side of the wood if you only have a circular saw and a jigsaw like you said?
ОтветитьPallet wood it's cheap everywhere and if u mess up it doesn't matter. Just get another pallet and start again 😊
ОтветитьThe only reason to go to HD or lows is if your local lumber yard / hardware store is out of stock and you need it immediately.
ОтветитьIf only we knew what store he was talking about threw the video, maybe I could drop by home de*** and see if they know.
ОтветитьI only buy mdf and melamine at the big stores. All hardwood I buy at my local hardwood/live edge dude.
ОтветитьTalking about tools like such a noob, i would give you a fake name and send you to an empty lot or landfill.
ОтветитьJust call it Home Depot already! They're not gonna sue you.
ОтветитьVERY HELPFUL! Thank you.
ОтветитьHi I’m buildin a closet what wood would you recommend
ОтветитьI just went to my first lumberyard. It was awesome. I didn’t buy anything but watching this video definitely help me understand BF and 4/4, etc. Looking forward to future projects!
ОтветитьYou make great videos... Love them..
