ОтветитьDuring the height of “Apartheid”
It’s often painted much worse than it was
I used to have tea and a sandwich with a black friend in a township in the late 70’s
What can l say, Paul has such a glint in his eyes, that's what makes him so nice, that bow at the end..... This is a really special man, he must be good.❣️
ОтветитьWhat a wonderful choices at that wonderful times
ОтветитьSo glad Art Simon was one of artists who broke black barrier in South Africa! It shook them in Johannesburg at the change that they had to make!
ОтветитьCan't stop listening 👂 to this masterpiece of composition. It's always a bomb 💣
Ответитьwhat a marvel she is. they both are.
ОтветитьMama Africa
ОтветитьHe had massive respect for her, enough to change his own lyric "from Tucson Arizona" to her own hometown.
ОтветитьHow i loved this song as a child...Legends!
ОтветитьAmazing
ОтветитьThis show in April 1987 at Radio City Music Hall changed my life.
ОтветитьProudly African.. Greetings🎉 South Africa
ОтветитьCan't believe Miriam Makeba isn't even mentioned in the credits for this song. What a travesty! 🤨
ОтветитьI live for this part😭👏🙌🔥
ОтветитьMy late mother had a cd copy of this album bought as a gift by her American employer, a very good album to listen to.

ОтветитьShe was so beautiful
ОтветитьWow. Would that even happen today. Really amazing
ОтветитьFun video. Good song. Paul Simon has a love for African music and it shows in the instrument he puts together in his songs. My recommendation is to go to him singing in South Africa”Under African Skies” from his African concert (1987) I think it’s in Zulu and English beautiful song about Africa👍😊❤️
ОтветитьI remember watching this entire concert with my family as a child.
ОтветитьA true masterpiece
ОтветитьWowza
ОтветитьWhen the performance will be presented and displayed to the crowd as if is spontaneous, you must know that the performers are naturally gifted.
Later on, Thandiswa Mazwai also did justice to the song. More importantly, she owned, or should I say, she conquered the stage.
Anyway, continue to rest well Mama Afrika!
Miriam Makeba: fucking, wow. Just wow.
ОтветитьJeez this is beautiful ..I love the way Paul admires singing with Miriam and how she can feel the rhythm with her breath hah
ОтветитьI love his songs ,❤ credit to our mother Mama Africa
ОтветитьShame Linda Ronstadt did not appear for this performance.
ОтветитьPaul is so cute here❤
ОтветитьRespectful exchange of culture in the name of civilization and musicality everywhere.
ОтветитьThis song was so powerful to me as a child. My first best friend was black, but she became my bully in third grade to prove to her friends she didn't like white people. I was stabbed, and other things happened that were even worse, and I became afraid of black girls, but after years of dealing with that I knew it wasn't really about race. Bullying can happen to anyone. "Joseph's face was black as night." but it was his own brothers that sold him into slavery. And it was Joseph who forgave them. This song talks about how we are the same. Love and evil is in each of us. We choose. I choose to forgive. (Edit: as I finish watching the video, I can't help thinking this song probably helped me process that pain and enabled me to forgive. Thank you, P.S.)
ОтветитьThis is so awesome to see Miriam Makeba I remember her singing the click song and other folk songs .
ОтветитьJoseph's face was black as night
The pale yellow moon shone in his eyes
His path was marked
By the stars in the Southern Hemisphere
And he walked his days
Under African skies
This is the story of how we begin to remember
This is the powerful pulsing of love in the vein
After the dream of falling and calling your name out
These are the roots of rhythm
And the roots of rhythm remain
In early memory
Mission music
Was ringing 'round my nursery door
I said take this child, Lord
From Tucson Arizona
Give her the wings to fly through harmony
And she won't bother you no more
This is the story of how we begin to remember
This is the powerful pulsing of love in the vein
After the dream of falling and calling your name out
These are the roots of rhythm
And the roots of rhythm remain
Joseph's face was as black as the night
And the pale yellow moon shone in his eyes
His path was marked
By the stars in the Southern Hemisphere
And he walked the length of his days
Under African skies
❤
ОтветитьThis is the whole point of music, art, passion, fortitude, respect and love for all that is good in this world. The corresponding album and subsequent tour were among the most eloquent and socially binding of all time. The way that Paul notices the world and puts it into lyrics is mind blowing enough but this moment on stage with Miriam speaks of admiration for one another. It's beautiful.
ОтветитьCould be one of the greatest songs ever written
