What's the Shimano part number for the 8 speed freehub body?
Ответитьhello, thank you for this video, i have a question can i use an 2x9 crankset on a 2x10 bike? i need to change the length of the crank arm and try to keep the budget low in case i need to go even shorter. I'm replacing a 172.5 for 170 mm.
ОтветитьNDS obviously, BUT after removing the 7speed axle you need to remove the drive side cone to swop it over to the longer 9-10-11 axle.
You will have to re-dish the wheel to re-center it in the frame.
non-drive side
ОтветитьNon-drive side.
I think in your closing you could have mentioned the dishing required to center the wheel.
thx a lot for this, exactly what i needed !
ОтветитьI gather you would have to swap axels as well and could you do this with 13 speed too
ОтветитьMade the swap first try! Thanks for the video. I needed to dish the wheel a little, but that was surprisingly easy too!
ОтветитьNice one, I have an old set of lovely Mavic 231's with a 7-speed Deore LX hub, and having an 8-speed cassette would really open up the gears that I could use in a 2 x/ 1 x scenario, and I could carry on using my old 1989 Deore II thumbshifters (they have a "secret" 8th click)
ОтветитьThank you. Answer: Remove cone and spacers from the non-drive side!
Ответитьam a ugandan how can i get those used ones, here they're still working
ОтветитьMulțumim!
ОтветитьNothing said about changing the chain ring/BB off set. This needs to be done otherwise you will have problems with gear selection and chain wear.
ОтветитьYou skipped removing the cassette. 🤦🏼♂️
ОтветитьI would have just swapped wheels/tire...seriously thanks I didn't know you could do that...but for the price of the freehub body, you might as well just build a new wheel...
ОтветитьVery helpful thanx
Ответитьjust be careful when re-greasing bearings. i went abit over the top, they was tight but after a few rides they went lose again. just dont put to much grease on them lol
ОтветитьHello Sickbiker, very well done! 😃, really helped me to get off the 7 speed body of my hub
Ответитьi bought 2nd hand hubs and noticed a slight wobble on the cassette despite it being correctly installed. took out the freehub body from my shimano 105 r7000 and noted it lacks the freehub body spacer. any suggestions where i can buy those? tnxu in advance sir...
Despite the wobble, shifting is very accurate and it only wobbles when coasting, not pedaling nor back pedaling.
btw SickBiker, your videos are very informative, accurate. tnxu vmch indeed sir...
The rim is out of dish (off center) now.
ОтветитьI was replacing my deore m535 9sp freehub body with fh-hg20 7sp freehub body. Since the interface is the same (10 notch) it just plug and play. Easy job. The downside is, when i fit the 8sp cassette, i have to sacrifice 1 cog in order to fit nicely in the shorter 7sp freehub body. Not Biggie for me.
HOWEVER......
when i decided to upgrade my freehub body, i am buying the RM35 freehub from my friend, then undo the freehub body, then fitted into my deore m535 rear hub. I notice some difference. My new rm35 free hub body is having 15 notch and bigger interface than my old deore (m535). What the f? I just realise that shimano having more than 1 interface. Sad.
Hello Sickbiker,
Many thanks for your vidéos ! Your job s very helpfull!
I have a question, is it possible to install a freehub body sram xd on an its x mavic wheel from about 2010 ?
I would like to turn a 26" scott spark 35 2010 in a 26/27.5" with sram gx 1x11 speed.
Many many thanks👍
Getting my balls magnetised is a worry.
Ответитьdid you measure how deep the lockring goes in to the freehub body (how many turns are needed to tigthen the lockring to 40Nm)?
I did the same and with a 11 speed HG Deore cassette and a 34.9mm (a standard) freewheel but mine just need 1.5 turn to reach 40Nm, that I believe is not enough a longer lockring is needed.
with a 135mm frame there are no issues about spacing.....
Just wondering what number or version of xt hub on your 8/10 are you using.I have a old Shimano 600 7 spd hub probably early to mid 90s that I would like to upgrade.Seeing a lot Shimano Xt HB-756 ,would this work?
ОтветитьI have a hub and a 10mm allen key don’t fit
Ответитьthis is really good video............thanks
ОтветитьI wonder where he got the removal tool. I checked Amazon and ebay and dont see anything like that
ОтветитьNo one has ever told me that I should worry about my balls getting magnetized...!!! LOL
ОтветитьWould this work for 1x9 to 1x11?
Ответитьreally good video. thank you.
Ответитьdo you need to re-dish the wheel since there's added width to the drive-side?
Ответитьit might be variating. but it's definitely 12mm HEX on the ones I have.
ОтветитьVery detailed. Good job!
ОтветитьOh you just saved me money 💰! Thanks man.
ОтветитьWhat kind of hub is use for this freewheel type? It looked like a cassette type.
Freewheel can be converted to Cassette type?
tbh this wrench doesn't look like 10mm, most likely 12mm. I tried to remove freehub body from my bike and both 10 and 11mm wrenches are too small. Also they're too small for the new one. Waiting for 12mm to try again.
Ответить10mm too small for me
ОтветитьHow do you find the right freehub body for the upgrade? I ordered one for Shimano and it doesn't fit. Also do you use the big axle or the small one? Thanks !
ОтветитьMy French wheel hub wouldn't unscrew 1ith 10mm wrench, it is totally different system I am unable to remove it.
ОтветитьDoesn't work, if your customer wants to upgrade his/her gears, sell a new hub/wheel.
ОтветитьI never knew my balls could get magnetized. Is there any health implication here? 😋
ОтветитьWe have the same rearhub for my road bike.. My problem is the cup for the bearings i dont know how to remove it.
ОтветитьDenk wel dat helemaal goed 👍🌹
Ответитьplease, the internet is full of old information about freehubs compatibility that are no longer true. since fixing bolt is not 10mm for all the rear hubs, the interchangeabilty of the freehubs is tied to the rear hub of the wheel (and the widht of the fixing bolt and the axle)
we can not use an xt (today) freehub in a deore rearhub (14mm fixing bolt vs. 10mm fixing bolt).
we can swap freehubs when they are compatible with the fixing bolt to attach to the rear hub.
maybe a video with freehub compatibilty by / between series (share fixing bolt widht) be helpfull.
i.e: today a 20º click freehub is nice for you. tomorrow you need 10º click... ok, swap the freehub and go away... errrr. nope today. what's your rear hub axle widht? ok, then you can go for one or other freehubs.
thank you.
Great video!
ОтветитьThanks so much...great tuto and the answer is the left side..non drive side
ОтветитьCan you make a video how to change a cup..
ОтветитьJest gdzieś ten film po polsku?
ОтветитьThe problem I have is that they sell the hub, but not the axle and other parts.
