How To Organize Recipes

When cooking for friends I have a hard back notebook which gives names, dates, menu and information about which recipe book the recipes were in. This meant I could check that I wasn't giving them the same as last time. As a low carbing vegetarian there are limited options for friends who are particularly fussy or have allergies. I also records people's food preferences. I also use the same system as you with folders and polypockets.

What do I do with all my kids art? Paper art, art projects, crafts, everything. It's precious but it can quicklu become clutter!

OK, after hearing this, and the care you take to find and store recipes, I want to eat at your house!

I love the tip about putting a tick in the index and on the page for good recipes and cross for ones not enjoyed. If I find a recipe to try online (usually when I have unusual ingredients from our Riverford box) I print it and try it and if it's any good it goes in the recipe file and if not it gets recycled. I had a purge on printed recipes a while ago and recycled all that had no picture. The recipes I had tried and liked have been done so often they are remembered. I would say that 80% of the time I just make up my own recipes depending on what ingredients I have. If it's really good, I write it in a book.

Hi Rachel, This has given me lots of hints to organise my recipes, particularly the indexing. Have you done anything covering emails? I feel the need to read everyone, but I am deluged with them, so they end up building up to huge amounts.

what a nice System! I also have both, hard copy and digital. I used to have all my cut out magazines in a Folder categorized by categories I realized however that on a day to day life I am the kind of cook that hardly ever looks through the books and then gets inspired and goes shopping for that recipe. It happens on occasion but usually I have an ingredient at home e.g. broccoli and I want Inspiration what I could make with it. So now I use Evernote for my recipes that are from the Internet or cut out (I scanned them so i can have less paper and file them better for my Needs. I only kept the paper Version of the recipes I already tried and loved). I have two digital "Notebooks" on Evernote: one for the recipes I loved and one for the ones I want to try some day. Each recipe is one file within that Notebook. The great part is you can give each file as many personalized tags as you like e.g. Broccoli, cake, vegan, fish, main course… so like this I can search for ingredients but also look for e.g. for a starter or a vegan recipe if I have someone coming over who is vegan. I would also like to try more recipes from my cookbooks to downsize my collection and just end up with the recipes. My end Goal would be to have all my favorite recipes in a book written down or printed as well as keeping the system on Evernote. Like this the ones I love stay available even if there were a fire or when I die and noone gets into my Evernote account anymore. :D I am gonna try your System for the cookbooks. It sounds great. :) Thank you! My Problem area: travel memories i have a combination of digital photos as well as papers from trips in a big tub. I want to make it into a nice Memory book (digital and hardcopy) but I am having Trouble getting started or deciding on how exactly I want to do this… Have a Wonderful day! :)
