Great to see you having fun with the old Karabiner. I am Swiss, "built" in 1965. I spend my army weeks in the 80ties ... in Payere as an anti aircraft gunner. Yes, we had our rifle back home with some ammo. In case of an emergency, you woud have to gather at a meeting point where they would hand out the uniform and other essential things. The rifle would bing you safe to that secret meeting-place. Every year you would spend 3weeeks in the army. I seviced 300days all together as a basic soldier. In addition you would have to pass a test with the rifle in a 300m shooting range every year. In the worst case, the swiss army had 600000 man in uniform. In a small country whith (then) only 6-7 Million citizen, that is quet impressive.
ОтветитьThe K11 an G11 take slightly less energy to operate than the K31 as the bolt loads up later in the stroke; all Schmidt-Rubin straight pull rifles are intended to cycle while on the shoulder and are much easier to cycle. These rifles are extremely accurate especially G96/11, G11 and K31 delivering about a 4cm group at 300meters. The K31 sights come back to 100meters. Look up Bloke on the Range for the most detailed coverage of these guns available on the Internet in English and French.
ОтветитьWatching this because of the Sunday Shoot Around video from 7/9/23. 😊
ОтветитьNever cared for them
ОтветитьI bought a K11 barreled receiver about a year ago and am still putting it together. Kinda hard to find certain parts and with my budget being low. When I bought it I was told it was a K31, and then i bought a K31 bolt, which didn't go in. Which i should have taken a closer look at the receiver beforehand (I've had a k31 and an 1889 in the past). But I'm just waiting on the last two parts for the bolt to come in now. I looked my serial number up as well and it was made in 1916. :)
ОтветитьI have a sporterized version, same ammo, I have 400 reds, like to sell it ,
Ответитьsince 2010, the soldiers have been able to deposit their weapons at the arsenal. but only about 0.4 percent do. everyone else still has the gun at home. All soldiers who have finished their service may keep the weapon if they want to. sorry for my english, it's google translate😅
ОтветитьHello Sir
Your informations are right.
We are able to keep our fireguns after service.
They will be modified from auto to semi auto and you have to do serval of shooting competitions befor you‘r allowed to buy th Swiss SIG550
The Swiss philosophy is similar to the non aggression pact.
ОтветитьHi interesting video about our Swiss heritage. As most citizens here, I of course own a K31 (and a K11) and the standard issued Fass90 (Fusil d'assaut 1990)/SIG-550 with ammo. Indeed you're well documented. The Swiss republican system of citizen-soldier implies rights (direct vote, benefits, healthcare, education...) and duties (mainly militia). However the militia "mindset" is a two-side system (compulsory and volunteer) and does not only encompass the military side but in any public service recognized for the common interest : you can serve in the armed militia (firefighters are part of the militia), or as a civil servant for an administration, in a hospital.... The military service is the base , if you choose a civil service you must serve 50% more time. The first militia service is a 18 weeks course (écoles des recrues). then you must serve 3 weeks/year for 9 years (cours de répétition), and after you can choose to voluntarily serve another week each year until your retirement. Anyway each male citizen must prove at least 1 shooting session/year in a club (or it's done in the army if you're a volunteer). Besides we've got to know our communal and regional gathering point and defensive devices (cut-bridge, freeway transformation to airstrip, rural/mountainous and urban bunkers, ammo depot, key defensive points..). We're neutral but I think we're not a country to mess with, and history has proven it (the last invasion attempt was Napoleon's and he regreted it while he occupied all Europe to Moscow... and Hitler didn't even try!). Finally as many fellow citizens I'm also a shooter in a club (Mosin nagant, Mauser 98K, K11 and my favorite K31), we can only own 1 Fass90/citizen unfortunately but marksmanship is indeed a culture here (maybe more than real tactical combat, but at least we are sharp shooters), most of my friends, coworkers and the households I know are either gun owners, militiamen, hunters or shooters...
ОтветитьThe case can hold the equivalent powder of a 30.06 case. But I only reload to safe perimeters.
ОтветитьIt’s a K11 not a model 1911 the model 1911 has some different hardware but same action it came before the k11
ОтветитьJesus Christ how big are you? Schmidt Rubin is really large rifle, even carbine version. But in your hands its look like single shot 22.
ОтветитьSights set for minimum 200 and 300 yards is common on European military rifles of this era (eg. K98's) and reflects the expected typical range of engagements in a war at the time. Apparently German soldiers were taught to aim at the belt (waist) at shorter ranges.
Re- the Swiss, I don't live there but I have been there a few times and spoken with locals. Yes they have a LOT of guns, most of which the anti-gun lobby would like to call "assault rifles".
And contrary to anti-gun philosophy that "more guns means more crime and homicide" they have a very low crime rate and low violence- they have NEVER had a mass shooting!
What this all indicates is the truth that politicians and many others refuse to accept- social unrest and crime/violence has nothing to do with guns- it is a socio-economic phenomena. The reason they refuse to acknowledge this is twofold.
One- they don't know what to do about the real problem because it would be so hard to fix, so it's easier to blame the tool.
Two- The desire to disarm the public is a cornerstone of a "police state" and there are always elements of political power that will use fear and disinformation about guns to further this goal.
The Swiss understand guns, security and most of all the socio-economic reality, they got it right!
Why did the Swiss make these rifles if they have always been neutral and have always avoided war
ОтветитьThese are (to me) a little expensive now but when I was a boy in ‘63 my favorite gun store had a rack of a dozen or more of K11 -K31 carbines for $10. Carcanos were $8.
Ответитьyou're aiming perfectly but.. keep the rifle up aiming while reloading. drill in switzerland 😊
ОтветитьOk, but which is better: the 1911 or the 1911?
ОтветитьThere is no "groove like rifling" in the receiver to turn the bolt. When you open the bolt you can see the cam groove on the bolt locking sleeve. It is rotated by the bolt cam follower rod which is what the bolt knob is connected to. This way the bolt locks in like any other bolt action so could only blow back if the lugs themselves fail.
ОтветитьI own a k31 and the ammo is the same GP11, but I noticed that you Sir aren't using original GP11, so my question is that hand loaded ammo or is PPU ammo?
Ответить🤣🤣🤣🤣 if you live in Alabama seating on a bar, you're not in Switzerland!!!! But if you're living inside a bar in Texas, now that can be considered Switzerland 🤣🤣🤣🤣👌👍 hilarious, I really respect this man, and is true what he says, because are so retarded people who for some retarded reason like to lie!!!! Why? I don't have a clue! Maybe because they are retarded!? Who knows!!!
ОтветитьAnyone know these value approximately of one of these rifles?
ОтветитьWhat is the meaning of the letters printed on top of the barrel next to the serial number?
ОтветитьHeavy Boat Anchore.
ОтветитьGreat job! I have the longer version of that, the 1911 Langgewehr. Greets from switzerland!!
Ответить"Was used..."? I just got two of these :)
ОтветитьI got one of these last month after watching this video. The rifle was fairly inexpensive… I got it for what a Mosin is going for these days.
ОтветитьI think this will be my next milsurp.
ОтветитьI was the last guy to post on this video 8 years ago! I just picked up a K11.
ОтветитьWe have a quite of few of these in stock!
ОтветитьColonel Rubin invented the Full Metal Jacket Bullet
ОтветитьMy father was a gunny. Why is his silver with a white leather strap underneath?
ОтветитьI recently acquired my fathers 1911 model that was manufactured in 1918
Looking for a replacement magazine and knew that I could find information on this great page!
Thanks for sharing!
Switzerland does not undergo changes every week, they still have holes in their cheese and in their mountains.
The holes in the mountains sometimes spit out an F/A 18 or two, and the cozy chalets (country houses) with no cows around can tilt the roofs up to let the 100mm gun have a look over the valley beneath. Travel there, You'll love it!!
I have one of those
ОтветитьI just got one. Not the 1911 but the 96 / 11
Ответитьi love this...😍
Ответитьi got one of these laying around in my basement from my grandfather i guess its about time to restore it
ОтветитьIs this classed as one of the best sniper rifles? Or is it one after this I'm not sure but it is a beautiful looking and sounding rifle that straight pull mechanism is awesome.....I am a fan of the model before this one the one that holds 12 rounds and is it 1898 or 1889 I get muddled but yes the workmanship on the swiss rifles are awesome and there mil surplus rifles are in good condition because they wasn't used much in battle etc awesome
ОтветитьOne fear I have with these types of rifles is that entire bolt assembly will fly just into my eye and brain cavity when fired :D
ОтветитьI just came back inside a few minutes ago from shooting my k11. Supremely accurate.
ОтветитьI never appreciated straight pull firearms until just recently when I was introduced to a friend's K11. I did some research into the Schmidt-Rubin family of rifles and ended up buying 2 K31s and 960 rounds of GP11 ammunition.
ОтветитьSweeeet!!
ОтветитьHickock. I just ordered one of these because of you. Expect a call from my wife. Heads up.
ОтветитьThey "would be good at making watches"..😄😄😄 ...
Ответитьhi hickok45, all men have to serve either army or civil (unless you are handycaped in some way). you are allowed to take home your gun and ammo, but dont have to.
ОтветитьHi there, I am Swiss, and I joined the Swiss army at the age of 20, back in 1966, like every Swiss male had to so at that time.
I got the new Sturmgewehr 57, an assault rifle, which is very good. When the Military School was over, after three month,
I had to take the gun home, together with my uniform and personal equipment, including 24 rounds of GP 11, 7,5 x 55 Swiss.
I was now responsable of my gun and every jear I had to do a test in shooting. I also had to do some repeating Military Services
five times three weeks, then four times two weeks until the age of 34. From then on, I had only to show my rifle and equipment once
a jear, until the age of 55, that was the normal procedure, very effectif, the Army had to be ready in one day !
They used to say Switzerland has not got an Army, Switzerland IS an Army.
Nowadays, the Swiss Soldiers can still take their weapons home, but without ammunition, but you can buy ammo in any gunshop.
Switzerland has not always been neutral, infact, they were some very ferocious figthers in the old days and becoming independant
was not an easy task. Some 200 battles have been fought on Swiss soil, against Romans, Germans, Austrians, French and Italians.
But thats another story, maybe for later.
By the way, the pope has a Swiss guard, because in the 1600s the Swiss mercenarys were considered the best.
I like your videos a lot, my father had a K31 and my grandfather a K11, both are superbe rifles and I shot them both.
Seen some k11 & k31 at Cabelas for $800ish, caught my eyes but is it worth it?. Would like to own one.
ОтветитьWe are neutral, but if someone would attac us, then we have enouth atom bunkers, to protect all 8,5 Million people in switzerland. And we have a really strong army. But great video. We have one k11 at home.
Ответитьnowadays, as before, you have all your military equipment and your gun with you, but the ammo is kept in another place... and yes, everyone has to practice shooting, quite often. There is though the idea that guns could be also kept in a special place, but I do not think this will happen soon. In any case you need some kind of unique culture to do this, everyone has guns, but very very few crimes are done with them, if ever, something VERY different from what you see in the US!
