I like the review, but if your are going to review a gun, why not use the original stock and scope for the review?

Great video ! I've been a target shooter for years now, and I am begining deer/javelina hunting (with a Mosin Nagant I already have...), I've made up my to buy a dedicated hunting rifle and it's going to be a Savage Axis, would y'all recommend .243 win or .308 win...???

Cheap ammo doesn't always mean bad accuracy.
My Savage .243 loved the cheap white box Remington ammo more than anything else. I tried Hornady, CCI, and a few other rounds through it. At 200 yards the cheap ammo was dead on laser accurate, while the more expensive "top shelf" stuff would land nowhere near my point of aim. Every gun likes different ammo, been shooting for almost 40 years and every firearm I've ever had wanted something different. There's no 1 size fits all ammo type. Do yourself a favor and try a bunch of types, brands and see for yourself.

QUESTION:
Love the channel, especially the fact that it includes a Canadian perspective. My question is this: I recently bought a Savage Axis 2 from Cabela's, their in house Banner scope package in 6.5 Creedmoor. When I fired the rifle for the first time the bolt was locked up and would not slide open to eject the shell. It wasn't until hours later when I pulled the bolt handle back with considerable pressure that it reluctantly opened and ejected. I haven't fired it since. Additional things to know: 1) I did not check any of the Allen keys and torques before use. 2) I did cycle the bolt many many many times to loosen the slide action, and practice my own trigger pull etc. 3) I did apply an oil to all the metal parts to resist corrosion as Savage doesn't have the best track record for their bluing.

I'm wondering if this is common? Could the screws for the action be off altering the cartridge path? Could my oil have been applied to thick and left a burned residue when fired to hold the brass? Or is this a common occurrence that will go away as the rifle gets broken in? Any help would be appreciated.

I was also wondering about buying a torque driver - Any suggestions on the best make and place to buy? The scope is not mounted straight, which leads me to believe htat assembly is questionable. I would also like to replace the rings as you suggest - do you sell them on your site?
TYIA

It would be nice if you would review guns how they come, makes a review kind of pointless if your upgrading parts to make it better not trying to be rude or anything im just saying it would be nice if we could see a stock review of the exact gun we are looking for

I bought this AXIS II XP in 7MM- 08 bacause it was cheap as a backup for when I have company or a failure/banged scope on my Browning BLR 243 and Savage 110 270 This trigger is good and my pattern was touching at 50 yards. This was even with the cheap sight on it. I have upper end Leupold scope on my other rifles.
This gun had me thinking about what to bring in the woods this year. I think the real proof is what happens when its time to zone in on a buck and that outcome.

Thank You for the Great Review on the Savage Rifle, I bought the Savage axis II in 270 Win and bought some Hornaday 130 ammo for it, I Have not shot it yet :) I Will Replace the Scope Rings as I Agree with you that they are not the best, I Bought a Bore laser indicator to adjust the scope with, I like Savage rifles, They work well, I also have a Ruger 10/22 rifle with a 4x8 scope, I Love that Rifle, its very very accurate, I hunt rabbit with it with CCI Stinger bullets :) ONE SHOT 1 KILL :) QUESTION ? Is It me or are Mossberg Shotguns are not Patterned at the Factory, I Cant hit the Broad side of a Barn with a Mosberg Shotgun, I have had a few Mosburg Shot guns and I traded them all Back in, I replaced it with a Winchester model 1300 Ranger Pump12 Gauge shotgun, and with the Winchester I can Hit 23 out of 25 clay targets, with the Mosberg, maybe 15 out of 25, I am a Very Good shot, at the Sheriff Acadamy Fire Arms Qualifying , myself and a Marine MP were the only 2 people to shoot perfect scores out of maybe 35 to 40 people, I used a 9mm S&W Semi Auto Stainless Steel Double staggered mag. Thanks Again, Chellie

You know something, as a hunter who the hell cares how tight of a group you can shoot ??? As long as you can hit a 4” circle you should be able to kill that deer. Unless you’re a target shooter all this hype about accuracy is ridiculous IMO.

A handy, short & lightweight afforfable rifle with synthetic stock. I Bet it would be very poular.

bought two of these in .243, one for me and one for my stepson. the scope had a slight tilt, and I found that both were not bore sited as they advertise. Pulled the bolt with the rifle on bags and bore sighted, two adjustments on both knobs and was bore sighted. When fired I could only see one hole in the scope. Walked 100 yards , and found out I was essentially putting four rounds into the same hole. After this I spent money on a better spotting scope. Step son got the same accuracy on his rifle after sight in . He then tried the 300 yard range and rang the gong 4 out of 6 shots. We are ecstatic with the accuracy of both rifles.

The Savage Axis Rifle is a great starter rifle for hunting and plinking - it might not win any target matches but it will get you game every time. My son and I both have these rifles and love them - We had to shoot them a lot to get the cheap scopes zeroed and get used to them, but once they were zeroed, ours have held zero and thats it. The only upgrades you might get are a better scope and rings. But they are great starter rifles for hunting and plinking.

Another gun pundit who has no expertise whatsoever. Just an average guy who probably hunts deer in season and thinks he knows guns in depth. More internet hogwash. 90% of stuff on the internet is hogwash. Cheap ammo can be extremely accurate and expensive ammo can do poorly in some guns. In my Axis 2 stainless, using hunting Deer Season ammo, I get 5/8" groups at 100 yards for 4 shots. But then the barrel heats up and the next shots will be up to 1.5" off. I have the model before they came out with Ergo stock as in this video, my stock has a flimsy forend. But the barrel is verifiably free floated, so it doesn't make much difference until it heats up. The Ergo stock is redesigned to be much stiffer all over (and by the way, does NOT have an adjustable stock). With an Axis 2 6.5 cm with the new stock, if a shooter can't get consistent >1 moa groups on a rest, he doesn't know how to shoot.
