he seems to speed up fractionally as he hits the bell (or whatever it is - triangle?) then slows to original pace again, afterwards.
ОтветитьThink the pic is from this as he has those small toms that are on the track
ОтветитьDude! You cut out that great snare fill! Wtf man I waited 20 bars for that. 😐
ОтветитьThat IS the Purdie shuffle 🤦♂️
ОтветитьIt's not even the complete song. Cut off just at one of my favorite fills of all time. 😒
ОтветитьBill Bruford, Michael Giles, John Densmore we're all around John's time...
ОтветитьJohn Bonham was THE BEST! Led Zeppelin changed music and “the biz” for the better! They were always experimenting and expanding so yes you hear Samba beats. John always smart-assed the count in. Jimmy Page has said he usually used 4 microphones close to John, a couple across the room& a couple above him when recording Bonham’s work. Okay, so I noticed you couldn’t appreciate this bc you “don’t know the song” -maybe a little Wikipedia for some basics first-might help. Also they had been in New Orleans not long before & that heavily influenced ITTOD’s sound.
Wikipedia:
Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and vocalist Robert Plant were inspired by samba beats that played during the 1978 FIFA World Cup tournament in Argentina.[2] Biographer Dave Lewis commented:
Thus the idea emerged to layer on their own samba halfway through the hop-skip riff arrangement. Crazed as it sounds, it works beautifully right through JP's [Jones] street whistles to Bonzo's [drummer Bonham] delightfully constructed timpani crashes.[2]
How in God's name can this guy not be familiar with this song lol. Even Zeppelin haters know this song C'MON !!!
ОтветитьThat man did not miss a stitch in time. So sad that alcohol took control of him. I truly believe Led Zepplin will not do a tour because he is not with them. I think Robert Plant is such a perfectionist that trying to recreate the sound that was Zeppelin is an impossibility
ОтветитьI have never seen any drummer apart from JB pull this beat off convincingly
ОтветитьRe: the vocal microphone - IIRC Bonham provided some backing vocals on some songs.
ОтветитьRosanna shuffle is much harder to do.
ОтветитьThis is the Purdie Shuffle and “ Rosanna “ is also the Purdie Shuffle. Bernard Purdie is one bad dude!
ОтветитьHi Andy, I played this years ago, fantastic drum beat, when he moves to the ride cymbal , I’m sure he’s closing the hi hat on the off beat, makes it even harder to play , as well as the ghost notes, what do you think?
ОтветитьSteve Gadd would be another real tight drummer of that time. Listen to the song Aja by Steely Dan Steve did that song in one take and that is a really hard song to play
ОтветитьYou can also throw Mitch Mitchell in as well, from that era, and Carmine Appice. There were a few others I can't recall at this time, who could achieve the kind of control Bonham had. Of course, control is only one aspect, but not all drummers back then had the machine-like smoothness that Bonham and those others had.
ОтветитьNobodys Fault but Mine is a good un too 😊
ОтветитьDrum expert,I think not.
ОтветитьFool in the Rain was off the last album (1980?), not too long before Bonham's death. The song shifts from the shuffle to a Brazilian samba for a minute and then drops back into the Bonham interpretation of the Purdie shuffle. The shift back is sooooooo sweet, sooooo satisfying! This was the only song off the last album that I liked and only because of Bonzo's work. Oh, no, there was also an awesome Bonzo piece on the album that was ... well, Bonzo!
Ответить"I'm not a huge Led Zeppelin guy but...". This is the guitarist's equivalent of saying "I'm not a huge Van Halen guy but I've heard that the guitarist was OK". Strange way to start a video about Bonzo.
Ответитьhow is this guy a teacher not knowing this groove
ОтветитьGreatest drummer of all time period! Closely followed by keith moon of the who🇬🇧🇬🇧
ОтветитьHes dead in the pocket every time. 😊
ОтветитьWho else was around at this time of "In Through the Outdoor" 1979 in drumming with John Bonham ??? Lots of great drummers...Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Ian Paice, Bill Ward, Carmine Appice and many more.
ОтветитьWhen John went for a cup of tea or whatever else they would steal one of his bass drums because they said he was just so powerful and that he could do more on one than anybody could do on two.
ОтветитьNOT a Led Zeppelin fan .... 🙄 I just past out. H E L L O ....THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME ...🎤 DROP
Ответитьhey your the expert toto Rosana it sounds the same the if agree
ОтветитьWhat about covering D'Maker? Love Bonham's drums on that one too
ОтветитьBonham was the best, but Bill Ward was his friend and to me was #2. Neil Peart at the time this was recorded was really coming into his own as well.
ОтветитьNo-one else grooves like Bonham.
ОтветитьNever heard of "Fool in the rain" by Led Zep..??? 🤣🤣You seem to have nice mikes and headsets in those Kiwi caves down there..ever heard of Beethoven...??
ОтветитьTo answer your vocal mic question, Bonham actually did backup vocals to Plant in several Zeppelin tunes.
ОтветитьAround at the time where ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchel, Keith Moon and everyone from the British invasion.
ОтветитьNeal Peart was just coming into fame around that time. He had been recording with Rush since mid 70's this album was 1979. Keith Moon had died about a year before.
ОтветитьWhy did you finish it early?
ОтветитьHate to say it cuz you seem like a decent guy but a little simple research would have revealed that the song came out in '79 which would have prepared you in your commentary on this song in the video. Neil Peart was certainly a name you could have thrown out there(concerning your comment about other drummers of the time) but Bonham was my influence and sadly he left this world way too early
ОтветитьOne of my favorite songs ever.
ОтветитьA drum teacher oblivious to Led Zeppelin and Fool in The Rain. Unwatchable
Ответить😴
ОтветитьHe and Carmine Appice were confederates throughout their careers.
ОтветитьAt the time of the release of " fool in the rain", a contemporary would have been Stewart Copeland
ОтветитьWatch his face when he drums - its like he's talking to the music.
ОтветитьJohn Bonham has music in him.
ОтветитьYou should listen to the drums on Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin. Awesome
ОтветитьSteve Gadd
ОтветитьDefinitely the Perdy shuffle
ОтветитьAdd Ian Paice from Deep Purple to rock drummer gods of 60s onwards
ОтветитьHow to get the bonham sound = be him or be as good as him
Ответить
