When I hit on the gradient map symbol, my picture immediately looks like a negative slide. I am not sure why?

Really amazing tut for popping colours. But it is killing the contrast way too much....And shifting the values in level, gives the clipping effect. Still lot to learn from this good tutorial.

What you are doing in several steps can be easily achieved by simply pushing the contrast slider to the left (1 click) or by using the curves adjustment layer (2 clicks). Besides, I much prefer the higher contrast and more vivid colors in the initial photos.
