When I worked in construction, we had an air compressor that was a Ford 302 with four cylinders as the engine and the other four or the compressor. It was a funky looking head design, but it ran pretty good.

International used to run a 4 cylinder engine like that with 1 side blocked off.

They use to make air compressor with the other bank. Nothing new but glad you show it

Hell Ford v8 flat heads would run with one head removed.

My F250 drove on one bank of cylinders for miles. Don't ask why, but it happened. It sounded like shit and drove like shit but it drove on 4 cylinders for a 5 miles or so. It went back to 8 and was fine later.

There was a company that used a V8 to make a towable air compressor. 4 cylinders running on gas like a straight 4, and the other 4 would compress air. Really interesting design.

My man just turned it into a heavier inline 4.

Those engines are ridiculously tough, not un-killable. Never underestimate the talent of some folks.
But regardless they take some serious abuse.

My cousin had an old V8 with a bad head so he and his brothers decided to take out the pistons from that side put a plate on it to keep the oil in and mounted it on a body less car frame for a go cart it ran for a long time like that
