Elena Ferrante is my favorite modern writer. So brilliant. Excited for this after having read this one just in the last year.

This is a story about an ignoble, skank character who leaves her 2 girls x 3 yrs to have a affair. Then as an old lady, she steals a poor little girl’s doll for several days & admits that she’s a dirtbag, so the kid’s mother, Dakota Johnson stabs her in the stomach w/ a hat pin. Why did this movie ever get made? It has zero redeemable points to it w/ a lame ending. Don’t go see it. It’s not worth it.

Waste of time. I get the psychological aspect, but nothing really happens. The plot is very misleading. Good acting, but pointless plot, some extremely unnecessary characters.

What a trash movie boring the story was trash the worst movie on Netflix and that’s saying something most movies on there are trash

I know I'm the jerk with the dissenting opinion but here goes. Too many scenes were too long and they dragged out. It also took far too long into the movie for me to understand what was going on. What, exactly, is happening here? I wondered if she was mentally ill. Had she lost her own daughter? Ultimately, I'm sorry I haven't finished watching the movie. I am, however, open to giving it another go. And now that I know it was a book first, I'm eager to get started on it.
Lastly, Olivia Coleman is outstanding in this film. Outstanding, as was Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut. I won't let a poorly executed storytelling surpass the significant work of these two people, as well as many of the other actors who make this movie come alive.

Dakota looks so beautiful

The unfolding story got on my nerves. Yes, there were strong messages of struggling young couples and real-life cranky kids. But the movie left me frustrated and unsatisfied from the ending. 👎

This movie is so boring that it's absurd, it just drags along and doesn't make any sense. It pretends to be leading you somewhere dark and thrilling, but you never get there because it doesn't exist. There's nothing thrilling or suspenseful, it's just a woman's flashbacks, of being a really shitty mom. While staring at Dakota all the time with stage5 stalker eyes, and playing a game of keep away, with a little girls doll, that needs to go sit in the timeout chair. They even manage to throw in 2 hiker's and a dinner scene , that makes zero sense!!! I'm so livid I watch it, that's the last time I depend on the comments section opinions, with movie trailers.

What is the instrumental song in the trailer?

A mother can leave her kids to enjoy her own pleasure, she can cheat her kid's father. Then when she becomes old she will cunningly try to re-enter her adult, successful kid's life. Because she knows her beauty expires, no one will love her. Only kids are last hope. But this selfish, characterless mothers get their karma back..

This film is not for everyone. It's only suitable for people who appreciate great cinema.

Talk about family of talents..Maggie & Jake,the sibling duo always amazes me..Jake has a production company & Maggie is now into direction.People can talk about nepotism but both of them have proved when privilege is used correctly,great things happen.

Love Olivia Colman but this was probably one of the weirdest movies I think I’ve seen in a long time. Also too graphic for my taste. Umm.. the mild porn was unnecessary. There was no lead up to it so you had noO warning. Dakota Johnson was also a very odd choice for this movie. And her performance was really odd. There was no explanation as to why her character was weird 😂. I’d give it a 6 just bc youre on the edge of your seat in every single scene. And bc Olivia Colman can do no wrong lol. Ed Harris is also great
