How Long Does it Take to Make a Full Time Income on Amazon KDP?

Great video Chris so far i have 50 coloring books and 20 eBooks making good money. 80% of my income is from coloring books. Guess I'm lucky as I create my books myself no need to send it out to some one. One thing that bugs me is when I see a book not in the same niche as mine but they show up in the search I wish AMZ would keep the niche to the book and not let anyone take a spot that they should not be! I need to ramp up with more books but I believe quality over quantity

Your core advice of ORIGINAL idea and a high quality illustrator is bang on. I started with 2 40 page books that I paid around $700 each, including cover and A+ content. The books are in a brand new niche (I was basically the first to market) that is getting very popular. These 2 books alone are already making me on avg $100/day since Feb 20th. Most of my advertising is in form of social media but I also run amazon ads. I was able to get down to 25-30% ACOS over the last 2 weeks which is break even for me and making 10-20 sales per day from that, but finding that every day is very inconsistent. Some days you can sell 25 books at a 10% ACOS and others I only sell 5. But my organic sales seem to hover in the 20-30/day range. Very happy with this result as it clearly shows people do crave originality and there IS a TON of money to be made if you can be original, creative and have some money to invest.

You talked about these amazon tools (which are good) that big influencers use and promote, and that’s really a problem. An example is the tool that’s being promoted now to make coupon books. I actually think it’s a cool niche and wanted to create some books, but now with this tool, I won’t do it because Amazon will probably be flooded with a bunch of coupon books, not to mention the competition in Amazon Ads.

Your royalties are 143,000 over 13 years which is about 11K per year. I don't see how that is a full time income.

Hi Chris. I only just found your channel yesterday (my birthday 🎉) and watched this video today. First, great video. I'm glad you set some real expectation in there. All these hype videos and tools like bookbolt, while useful, do seem to be hype. That being said i have found far more joy creating coloring books then other niches. So many weird and wonderful things i have come across. Second, my goal is not really to replace my income, its more to compliment it. Don't get me wrong, i would love to do this full time, but i like the idea of this to fall back on should my job go badly. Less stressful then if i have to rely on it for my full time income. Not that i am knocking it. If i made a full time wage on kdp and in a job, i would run themin parallel for as long as possible. Anyway, looking forward to your next video.

So grateful for this video man. Published my first coloring book last month, made 17 sales in total then the sales just stopped. I made so many mistakes and just put out slop AI mixed with extensive editing, and i had a crap cover so im not surprised it didnt go well. I didn't even pay for any ads (I probably would have lost money) but with my second book, i have put 100x the amount of care and effort into my current book. Its taking me a really long time to make but even if this book doesnt do well, I don't plan on giving up, i do plan on getting better and learning from my mistakes as well as watching videos like this. Really rooting for all my fellow kdp publishers!
