Ryan, great review. You possess very thorough knowledge and you deliver your narratives very clearly and with good methodology. This is the first review of yours I've seen. Thank you.

I'm in the market for a new car (SUV) and am trending toward this Jeep. Thanks again, Ryan.

A buddy is logging 16mpg which is worse than the V8 Mustang a friend has. We chalked it up to the extra wight of the batteries.

This vehicle looks awesome, but the EV range is disappointing. The Next Generation Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has way better EV range and offers features comparable to luxury SUVs minus the high price.

As with any PHEV, it's a matter of how you drive it. I consistently get 33mpg in my 5,400 lb Wrangler 4xe. Also if you do your research, you can get insane deals on Jeeps making them even more affordable. I'm driving my Wrangler for almost $17,000 under MSRP.

I already have one, not the XE though, but thanks for showing the can you sleep in it part. I think someone up to 6 foot tall can sleep in the back if your aren't sleeping like a corpse. The width inside is about 40" between the wheel humps. A Toyota 4 Runner has about 4 inches less of laying down room if you wanted to sleep in it, so I didn't get a 4 Runner. I didn't want a L version, I imagine you get another 3-4 inches in those.

Is Jeep's current reliability actually a big issue or is it blown out of proportion when compared to other American manufacturers?

I really enjoy seeing things come and go with vehicles. Auto makers always try new stuff. Some of it doesn't work, but some of it stays permanent. Piano black is going to run its course. There was also a very short era of having screens without volume knobs.

$75k seems crazy for a PHEV with such a small range. I ditched my Jeep after years of issue after issue for my Rav4 Hybrid. TBD on how the Toyota holds up, but I'll never be back in a Jeep on my own dime

Anyone spending $75,000 USD on a Grand Cherokee must be huffing paint... especially when you remember its literally just a 4 cylinder under the hood.

HARD pass

PS... lets not kid ourselves, a crossover with air suspension definitely isnt a "rugged offroader"

Absolutely agree about the graphics design, cars for half it’s price put them to shame. The Tech is there, it just seems they hired the wrong people to design the UI. Hope Jeep changes it, as it’s making it’s way to the Wrangler. So far upgrades have been sparse and pointless

They should have kept the V8!! This does nothing for rural middle America and unpaved County/Country roads. Car for City folks who have access to charging and are token off-roaders.

Well the PHEV is eligible for rebates that regular hybrids are not eligible for so I can understand why some people would go with this vehicle despite the limited electric-only range.

The PHEV aspect is very much on a case-by-case basis. We can charge regularly and do most of our errands/commuting within electric range (round trip) and have been able to hit 950 miles between needing to fill up on gas. We also lucked out with a bunch of free L2 chargers around our area that aren't ICEd often or at all. Potential buyers also need to keep in mind what their cost per kWh is vs. what the price per gallon of fuel is if they are more concerned about the cost of running one of these.

As for the passenger screen, it came standard on our Base trim, and we have used it maybe a handful of times. It could be used if you are offroading with a passenger, and they can view the cameras on that screen at any speed. We have also used the TomTom nav, and the passenger can look up destinations on the fly and send them over to the main screen. The HDMI port does allow you to hook up any number of FIRESTICKS or equivalent, but then you are at the mercy of a data plan and connection. It stays off most of the time.

Jeep obviously makes very capable off-road vehicles, but I just can’t get past their reliability issues no matter who the current owner of the name plate is. Great review. I’ve tried other vehicle review channels but yours is by far the most professional, comprehensive and well videographed of any I’ve seen.
