Thankyou guys for making this content and dispelling all the myths about TVs! I have been using your site for buying advice for a number of years now. Also toaster comparison? WOW!

If there is a correlation between panel type (va, ips +\- mini led) and failure it would interesting to see what that is. For instance, it seems like VA + mini led is the way to go (oled aside) so I wonder how the tech does compared to IPS or whatever.

5 years only and panels degrade?? What the hell! 10 years would be minimum for those prices.

NO amount of burn in is acceptablke. which is why i will NEVER buy a oled. Qned/nano from LG seems to be the best technique on the market right now. to bad it is to darn expensive for me. And funny that only the tv brands i would not buy are the problem cases.

Thanks. I was wondering how long some would last. I figured the visual damage would appear. But it proved the issue is Slow BLUE in issue. The more sinister failure of nowing there a problem but how long before you scrap itfm for another Good Video 😎

lol I still have a 13 year old samsung monitor TV hybrid that still works to this day only the backlight goes red'ish overtime comparing to another monitor that has same backlight technology as the samsung and that has less low hours of usage, the difference is kinda high tbh

I wonder if there are any repair cycles your testing is missing? Like CRTs used to degauss on powerup if you left them off for an hour, and I have a dell 3011 that gets temporary screen burn in (I can see the edges of windows) if I leave it on for more than about 8 hours a day(but goes away if I leave it off for an hour or so).

I wonder if this kind of color issue will be covered by extended warranties... I recently bought a Hisense U7K and ponied up the $129 for the 5-year Best Buy extended warranty. Hopefully this kind of thing will be covered!

when you're done with a TV that showed spots of discoloration i would like you guys to try and wipe them with a bit of pressure. maybe a decade ago i bought a used TV, which the previous owner had for some reason laid face down on a pillow. there was a massive dark spot where it laid on the pillow, i was pretty mad and almost threw it out, but my dad just pressed on the spot and wiped it till it went away.

I have a Sony X95j and have been extremely disappointed. It developed blotchy yellow-ish patches in the first year. Of course, it didn't get really bad until after the warranty had expired. I went with LCD instead of OLED because I wanted longevity. My Sony from 2008 still looks the same as the day I got it. Why aren't more people talking about this problem?!?!

My SONY 3D TV 42W805 work 23 000h for 10 years, and the backlight is almost ot minim 3 of 10.The picture quality is very satisfied! I doubt the new LG G2 Oled will make a third of it.

Good thing mine still works, an LG 4k TV as monitor 12-16 hours a day for 6 years. I had to fix it though with the scotch tape technique, and no more wireless connectivity. Not sure when I'd upgrade to 120Hz VRR TV.

Been using Samsung LCD TV as computer main monitor for... 13 years? Long usage time, can say average 12h a day, whole year continuesly. Yes I am hermit / hikikomori. 😭
Luckily, no color issue. It just the edge become darker (about 1cm distance have dark gradient), a couple subtle small dark dots I not sure if they are just dust or mold (not noticeable in regular usage), or pixel falure? Also slight burn in on the taskbar. Can still tolerate it... still usable.

If you use your OLED as a computer monitor and never vary your content for several hours every day.. yes you will get burn-in eventually.

But many of us still appreciate that the technology exists and the image quality it provides. I personally don't mind the tradeoff of being more careful to have an amazing display. Its so silly that people have these wars about they consider the 'best'. We all win with all these different display types.

I somehow feel more validated than ever with my choice to go OLED, especially seeing some of those 10 months slides on more recent panels especially the monitors. They hold up insanely well over time, all things considered. I have a question though: I've seen 5% grey slide and 50% gray slide being tossed around and I know that these are designed to show burn in on OLED, but which one of those is better and which is worse, and which one is closer to being seen in actual content?

Those blue/purple spots....When you see it there, you just know it will start to grow until all the Tv is a big Thanos filter.
Don't know which one is worst: The random vertical stripes of screen failure/burn*, or the purple filter growing non-stop. (And all that on LGs and Samsungs from my experience...)

I have a 16x10 26 inch MINTEK I bought at Costco in 2005. It was among the first batch of LCD displays.

From purchase to 2012, it was a computer monitor on 16 hours every single day (in a very literal sense btw). After that it was a bedroom tv for ~2 years, then I lent it to my neighbor (she was 94) for 3 years where it was on 24/7 (she never turned it off, not even at night).

It never failed. Never faded. The backlight is still totally uniform. Not using it since I got it back, but the amount of use it got is ridiculous and the fact that it still works is even moreso.

Despite an equivalent amount of time and all the oleds having permanent burn in, just ignore those because lcd can have issues sometimes too. just vary the content and you won't notice it as much oh and ignore that you can vary the content with lcd too and have longer sessions of pure static content, just ignore that as well
