Once upon a time this was helpful, but in May 2022 Google settings changed and all you get if you follow the second part of those instructions is "The setting is no longer available". It cannot be turned on. It was a non-issue until your recent migration, but apparently now it's a real problem. Any new solution?

This didn't work for me with 2FA. However you can go to those settings and create an APP PASSWORD which will be a 16 digit password and you can authenticate whatever you're setting up using that password assigned by Google.
