DJI Mini 2 vs Mavic Air 2

I have a mini 2 for about 2 years. It is a very reliable drone, I love this little buzzer :D

Hi Jake, on the used market from a very popular pawn broker in the UK, there are two options I'm seeing here.
One of the options is a DJI Mini 2 in very good condition, the other is a Mavic Air 2 in fair condition, the Air 2 has a lot of cosmetic damage but apparently is in full working condition, both are £299, or about $350 dollars.
Which do you think I should go for? The Mavic Air 2 has a 12 month warranty, the Mini 2 has a 6 month warranty.

The mini2 has amazing natural camera. I can't believe how good it is.

Hello Jake, thank you for this content. I know its an old video, but last year I was considering the mini 2 but did not pull the trigger. Now the mini 3 with avoidance and other features looks attractive. My sole purpose of purchasing my first drone would be for recreational purposes, use out when gravel cycling, around the house or at a park. Nothing commercial or any intent of making money. I noticed the Mavic air 2 (not S version) price is attractively vs the new mini 3. Would the air 2 be adequate for my purposes? Or am I looking over any advantages of the mini 3 other than weight?

Just got my mavic air 2 on Thursday 19 May 2022. It's now Monday 23 May 2022. Have never flown any real drone before only toys. It's amazing you will not regret it if you buy it. Another note to make is that right now, the mini 2 is still $600 for the fly more combo but the mavic air 2 is now only $790 both on Amazon. So it's definitely worth the pretty big upgrade you get from the mini 2 to the mavic air 2 for the now much smaller price gap. I'd say the only reason to get the mini 2 now is if you really want to be under 250 grams but honestly registering the done with the FAA and taking the TRUST was crazy easy and took me all of 20 min to do both. So your choice but there's features on the air 2 that you simply can't get on the mini 2 that are well worth the price now. Now go out and buy a drone you won't regret it! Cheers everyone

Thanks for a very informative and balanced review. I have a Parrot Anafi. It is a great lightweight drone with a good camera and will do active track, waypoints and other autonomous flying but WiFi transmission is its weakness. I purchased the Mini 2 for many of the reasons you pointed out including Occusync which is extremely reliable.

This may sound stupid, but is there a chance down the road, for a simple software update that will allow for follow me mode on the mini 2?

for the price, you can buy two mini 2 compared to one air 2.

mini 2 with li Ion from mini 1: yo can fly @ minus 20: no problem!

I prefer the Mini 2, I don’t need any special permit or registration, it’s only 249g. It handles great with heavy wind. I have both so I can tell. Never used again my Air 2. Nice video btw

That's too bad, my mini 2 has reached 37mph a couple times but usually hits 31 in sport mode and 26mph into the wind.

Is it just me or based on the side by side the mini is skewed very blue... The snow and everything looked very blue on the mini and white on the air 2

they should add spotlight mode to the mini 2. No need for obstacle avoidance and it would make it so much better.

Regarding the footage that you take by drone or camera (4k videos/photos/etc) , for how long you keep the oroginal footage after you edit your videos? You keep the original files forever or you delete it after editing?

Well you can do like me and just buy both! Altho I have the pro model BUT I will say I fly my mini 2 more just because it fits in a pocket, super light, small light batteries etc etc….. I tell people just like using a phone camera vs a dslr you prob use the Iphn more because you have it with you! I take my mini 2 everywhere and as a result fly it more. Just my .2 cents and I expect change……

But the mini can be used virtually anywhere, the mavic air can’t, mini 2 is a non brainier……
