Great, great discussion for anyone who is running up against the confusing parts of webpack, babel and other loaders and keep getting frustrated with sucky documentation. Not to mention what the hell all those webpack plug-ins are really about I didn't understand that webpack itself is built from plug-ins until I watched this talk.
Too many reacts samples out there have initial set ups using babel and webpack and each example seems to be using slightly different versions of tooling. I keep trying to stick to reactjs alone and come back to the tooling but it's hard to extract some of the tooling sometimes especially when you don't understand what is going on with things like presets and plug-ins.
The speaker is coming from the front line battle to get webpack cleaned up with its next version. It's good to know that the authors know all too well that the documentation sucks right now and it is easy to get caught in the weeds when you are just trying to get something done and have to stop and take a few days to study some new concepts from using confusing docs.
