Not having experienced war myself, but having an Uncle who served two tours in Viet Nam, I'm surprised Platoon didn't make the list. I've been told it was quite realistic.

I think the Iraq Invasion deserves minimal praise for the fact that it was the most unnecessary and lowering of the American standard of honor and leadership in the world and respect . A giant leap backwards when the world looked to America with United disgust of the anti human civilization absurd savage 9/11 mass targeting and murder of random innocent people . What I noticed and I would say was purposely missed was the movie Vietnam era movies PLATOON and or HAMBURGER HILL.

Restrepo and it’s 2nd part Korengal are great documentaries!

im just gunna say very very good list BUT watch band of brothers please then u can change it to first i challange any 1 to watch all the episodes and tell me they didnt feel a thing its the ONLY war movie /series that 100% makes u feel what they feel its very powerful all true and perfectly made

People are tanking bullets like it's nothing
People in unarmored vehicles are getting shot at by tons of dudes and are seemingly fine
It's far from realistic....

I remember seeing Come and See when I was a child. I didn't know the title, or where to find more info as it was years before I had internet etc! As soon as I was able to I found it. It's just stunning, It really played on my mind for a long time.

What about "Outpost"?

Come and See is a rather strange and nightmarish war film.

I echo many of the other comments and commentators - 'Come and See' is horrific on an entirely different level and it is a masterpiece. Best of all, it is part of the Criterion Collection and it has been beautifully restored, with additional interviews and commetary.

Clint Eastwood is the only director to capture a bloody battle from both sides. "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Letters from Iwo Jima" are masterpieces.

Putting a documentary a number 1 haha . F*cks up the whole list what a d*ck

I'll mention a few: "Cross Of Iron" was one of the first war movies to be "more" realistic. it does not get the respect it deserves. "Panfilov's 28" by Kim Druzhinin is Russian, and an amazing effort. "The Winter War" by Pekka Parikka ..Is very well done

Purely speculative opinion. Nothing more. I would put the scene in "Gone with the Wind" with the doctor cutting off a soldier's leg with a saw without chloroform pretty high on the how horrific it actually was list. This is just another online fraud.

Not even close. How do you highlight movies with stars that look down on military Veterans? Jarhead was horrible because gyllenhaal was in it. He hates the military, and he hates Veterans. The same for Saving Private Ryan. It was a good movie right up until matt damon showed up in it. No movie with either of these flaming morons in it should EVER be eligible for a list like this. Maybe you should’ve asked a few Veterans what they thought? I guarantee you would’ve gotten a very different list.

War is strange. Things happen every day that are totally abnormal, then they become normal. Then you return to wherever you come from and nothing is normal. The worst part is there have been generations that have been raised in these war zones that think all of it is normal.

Restrepo is a documentary so doesn't belong on a list of realistic " movies ". You ignored Das Boot which is unquestionably the most realistic depiction of submarine warfare and arguably the most realistic war movie made.

Based on numerous biographies I've read on Viet Nam, Platoon really nails it.

And Sam Peckinpah's Cross of Iron isn't included? I'm disappointed.

Not sure about the list.
First of all, "Generation Kill" is an amazing short TV show, but can't beat the NOTORIOUS AMAZING "Band of Brothers"! Second, the 1st in the list... is not a movie; is a camera footage taken from the real troops, so OBVIOUSLY is THE realistic... but is not "movie", is a camera footage. The "Come and See" is a great film, but has VERY LITTLE war scenes. The great "Stalingrand" is superb film, but there is a newest "Stalingrand" (Russian production) MUCH MUCH MORE better!

And... there are MANY missing amazing films from this list, for example the NOTORIOUS INCREDIBLE "Das Boot"!!!
