MAKE SURE you're listening to the mix. You'd be surprised HOW LITTLE all your guitar sound tweaks make in the mix. The mix will determine HOW HEAVY your guitar and track sound FAR MORE than your amp tones.

Check out Hardcore Music Studio if you want some really good reference, he mixes some big metal and hardcore bands.

New to this ,for drop c metal with high gain amps, TS up front with pulse ir loader should I set the hp/lp in pulse or leave that for the Eq? 100/10k or 80/12k? I don't know how much to cut db wise ,say at 300 is 1-4 DB cut a good start? And the high end I heard cut 8k, 10k etc. If I do a cut at 10k should I pull out some 8k? The harshness in the highs I hear with the low end flab.. ty ty

Glenn, this was very helpful! My only question is can/would you do a full mixing tutorial on REAPER's stock plugins? If you haven't done that already, that is.
I'm currently saving money for more studio essential hardware and acoustic treatment, so plugins aren't at the top of my list.

This is GOLD man, something I would suggest is adding subtle saturation at the end lf the track. I’m using Softube Dirty Tape which I got for free. I also sometimes add more saturation before the amp sim, something like Neold Big Al works well there.

I just wanted to say, you literally make my favorite videos about audio production ever. I’ve learned so, so much from you. However, I was wondering if you could do a video on fuzz mixing, and EQ. I’ve never had a problem with crunchy, regular distortion, or overdrive. However, fuzz is a different beast. I can’t seem to find much of anything out there focusing on that specific kind of distortion, and how to keep it from totally mudding up like fucking hell when you have a lot of overdubs going on. Who knows, maybe I just suck. I’ve been told heavy fuzz is a real bitch though, and those people weren’t kidding.

I have the positive grid amp sim software. Would getting the package with all the extra speaker options worth it ?

Is it true, by putting the Master volume at max, it allows the power section to drive harder, with very little Pre-amp gain to cause natural saturation? I have tried this with a Joyo overdrive and it seems to give a better tone without maxing the gain on the pedal.

These guitars sound super dry and lifeless. That would never, ever be acceptable for me. Also, they're way too high in the mix for me, with the drums being way too quiet. How will they actually sit in a mix if the guitars aren't way too high in it? And this is your tutorial for mixing them? Guess I'll not be watching this channel.

Wow Glenn! I just re-watched this (after catching your latest Viewers' Comments vid) and tried using the EQ techniques on some tracks I recorded through my Kemper. The tricks around palm-muting and cutting out the 'quack' work like a dream! Improved what was a 'good' tone to something that sounds really mean. Cheers from The UK 🤘😎🤘
