a better option for the holes in your SAB is just taking a cigarette liter and melting the edges of the holes so they don't snag on anything. painting your monotube wont do anything. there is no alternative to using a black liner in the tub. the purpose of isn't just to block lite but to hug the substrate while it is being colonized. this will keep a ton of moisture in the cake while pinning and fruiting. more water=more fruits. it also separates contaminants in the condensation on the walls of your tub from coming in contact with your cake. cheers good luck.
