What made Johnny's Tonight Show so special was that he wasn't caught up in the "celebrity" nonsense. He had all kinds of different people on the show. Remember the old potato chip lady or the guy who had the biggest ball of twine in the world?
I loved when Joan Embry brought her menagerie of animals from the San Diego Zoo to the show.
Now every single talkshow only has insanely rich entertainers and the occasional politician on their shows. I don't give a crap about the movie stars and they clearly don't give a crap about us commoners either.

There will never be another Johnny Carson.

My dad’s favorite show was the Tonight Show and his favorite thing was Carnac. I got to watch on Friday nights and after we got a VCR, more regularly. I think next to Sis Boom Bah, this was his favorite one. He passed three years ago and I’m grateful to have found this clip.
I always felt safe and comforted in this world when I was in bed, Carson was on in the living room and mom and dad were laughing. Thank you Johnny Carson for being a great memory for me.

Therefore, because of Carson’s ability to make bombing the funniest, by default …it is the BEST Carnac segment ever.

Johnny Carson wrote for Red Skelton in the early days of his career such as Heath Cliff and Gertrude the talking seagulls.

The healthy and hearty laugh of the late, great Mr. Ed McMahon was infectious.

Even the jokes that flopped were funny. The reaction was sometimes funnier than the joke.

wonders, what about Carnac's FINAL visit. You must remember this (hey, sounds, like a lyric!). After a "clunker", in that piece, Carson/Carnac remarks, "we're not gonna get away with this (bleep) for another year!" Ed, nearly, fell on the carpet.

The Carson show was best when things didn't go as planned
