That's great innovation. Too bad they could not make salt float at water surface. Maybe with a frequency.

Ok lost me on how fresh water goes thru the salt water in the tank and permeates the hydrophilic membrane to collect in the bottom tank??? Salt water brine is denser and should prevent that from happening.

The trouble is, this technology will never give us what we want from salt water - too much brine waste left over. However, wise use of the fresh water we have available plus this technology could possible double or triple what we already have. A large percentage of our "fresh" water is compromised by pollution from many sources, but if that pollution could be taken out of our bad water, then we would have enough fresh water forever. That is: clean up our waste water and polluted water for consumption. Be smart with what we have and don't bang your head against improbable
salt water conversion.

Ok, if the 'sea levels are rising' (which they've done throughout the earth's entire history, after falling) then why are they worried about fresh water if all their atolls are going to soon be submerged coral reefs ie gone, under water..... Obvious Common Sense.

US tap water is ten times more expensive than water in the islands surrounding Australia. Also this isn't revolutionary technology, we have been displaying prototypes like this, myself included, since the 1980's.

All of the countries and regions that suffer from water scarcity also suffer from food and other resource scarcity. Their problems can be solved by using condoms, not pouring trillions of dollars into trying to help them breed exponentially and irresponsibly. If you are in a resource poor country, having 18 children to 4 women is kinda a dick move. And you probably should go to prison for it. Heck I think if you're in the first world and you have 18 children knowing full well you can't take care of them you should go to prison for it.

It really shouldn't be limited even on normal earth. Geographically it the big problem. Global Warming now helping. We had an invention here, not sure why it wasn't taken up. Just used simple chemical interaction, through a filter. It saddens me, our water here is so damaged by Industry. :( I will follow up, whilst my country has a 188 Billion problem here. (Wages before infrastructure), but 1/2 our G.D.P. Thank you, are you involved in anyway? P.S. NZ, we only have .2% on surface. Plus dirtied, plus.. Whilst having so much pure, due to great Aquifers. :) I will Pioneer water ahead of everything, in the life equation. :)

Focus on the technical side and get to the point instead of making the viewer feel sorry for a 3rd world country. The price of tap water includes the water tower and piping to distribute it, and ongoing replacement of parts and labor. So the device can only operate for 180 hours without maintenance?

Green light at a 45 degree angle uses less energy to produce fresh water and at the same time it cools the air around it producing a cooling effect. This is the latest method from MIT.

I think the ability to clean dirty water would go even farther to allow homes to reuse all of their water waste. This allows the water tables to last much longer and make desalination less necessary.

Enery engineer here. The amount of salt left after desalination is still the same. Only difference is how concentrated in salt brine water is. Other than this, the system looks interesting. Need to go through proof of concept and scale it up. Water scarcity is a big issue and solving it would represent a huge step up in human development.

Even this channel has sadly conformed to the false Anthropogenic Global Warming narrative. Fact: Sea levels are NOT rising. Actually they are declining due to the SUN now being in a Grand Solar Minimum. And sea levels will continue to decline for hundreds of years from today. Approximately 500 years into the future, the coastline of Florida will extend 400 miles from what it is today.

It is possible to harvest the humid air that exists, at usually 100%, just offshore. This air is water vapour that already has no salt content. There is a team of researchers at the University of Illinois, led by Dr. Praveen Kumar, who already have a theoretical model, that just needs investment to build a working water extractor on a large scale.

How old is water?

If people consist of over 70% water, so when a person dies, they effectively "evaporate", water droplets return to the sky and gather in the clouds then rain down on the living. What a lovely cycle. ❤❤

So what steps are needed after 180hrs or for maintenance?
Been dreaming for years of a electric boat design that would use mostly solar and wind to be the primary fuel to desalinate and store hydrogen (For later use when it's not so windy or sunny at sea).

The maintenance part is what always drives cost up past just using diesel and funny how many " breakthrough" tech has these costly downsides that presenters never discuss.

Just saw another discussion that found out how light *presenter claimed green light at 540nm is key) is also at play at evaporation. A system that is better then heat alone but still energy intense to make desalinate water vs using salt water for catamaran boat size hydrogen production.
