Greetings from VT, USA. Your are a global phenomenon Colin! 😂
ОтветитьStage fright does not require or come with a stage. The fear though, its always there. Dont worry about it and that is one heck of a guitar right there, holy heck I want one too.
ОтветитьThat's guitar redemption right there Colin!!! Good for you.
ОтветитьHi, you should visit Peach guitars in Colchester. They have nice guitars.
ОтветитьWhen you go, go with a smile!
ОтветитьHappy for you, Colin! Crazy to think sometimes people are just on a similar journey. I remember seeing one of your videos on the epiphone custom and remember commenting about getting one and then going up to a Japanese Tokai. Well, I bought a Gibson LP custom this past week. I was fretting bout the weight being around 10 lbs and even returned an 8.2lb 60s standard that was fantastic because the Custom has been the dream. Guess I'll find out if the one I purchased will live up to the hype. Still waiting on mine to arrive, but excited to find out!
ОтветитьCool vid. I live about 5 minute walk from that PMT shop in Romford and they are a really nice bunch but I totally get what you mean. Every time i go in there (or any guitar shop) and try a guitar my fingers go to lead, i forget everything i know, start sweating and gernerally walk out feeling utterly fed up. I then go home, pick up guitar and there are no issues at all. So guitar shop phobia is definitely a thing. Also what i love about PMT is they leave you alone in the room for as long as you need - theres no pressure.
You added extra pressure by filimg it....but you went back and fate would have it the guitar was still there....it was meant to be and its a beaut. I love my Gibson Les Paul in Bourbon bust and cos i cant afford a Black custom one ive just bought a Epiphone version.
It’s not a holy grail, it’s an old guitar that you just blew £5k on. You’ve had loads of other guitars that were way better than that one. Sounded better looked better
Ответить👍👏👏👏
ОтветитьHey col you should try the gretch pristine ltd jet single cut bigsy white gold they are fantastic on sale for 550£ amazing value
ОтветитьSo my take away is that this one will not be for sale😁 Cheers, glad someone got it who will appreciate it
Ответитьwhat was the price tag?
ОтветитьI bet you change the knobs. 🫡😬
ОтветитьI bought an early 70s T Top, i had one years ago and sold it, it arrived and I love it, it's very trebly, doesn't have the furry low end and I find it very musical and a joy to play.... so I ordered the other one of the pair, cost quite a lot but they're so clear, love them.
ОтветитьMy ‘69 custom has those gold knobs on, and I bought it in ‘’72 so I’m assuming they were on it from new?😊
ОтветитьI know exactly what you mean. I can’t play in a music store either. It feels like evrybody is watching to see how good you are.
Ответитьi love the tone but hate that buzzy sound !!!
ОтветитьThe only guitar shop I ever felt comfortable in was Tempo Music in West Ealing back in the early 80’s. I bought my first Strat there, a ‘79 new back in 1981. The shop was run by a nice bloke called Laurie, they had some good stuff there and because it was kind of out of town it was usually quite chilled there. It was a tube and a bus ride to get there for me. Over the years I bought three Strats, an SG and a Tascam Porta One from him, all new. If I knew then what I know now I would have gone for the older vintage stuff but such is life, you want new and shiny when you are young 🙄. He let me take one Strat back and swap the rosewood neck for a maple one after I had it for a while. He showed me his store room upstairs once where he kept rarer stuff, wish I could remember better what he had up there now. I do reminder he had a new Les Paul Custom in Goldbursf up on the wall (like Silverburst but rarer), wish I had bought that one. Wonder where it is now?! I enjoy your channel Colin, your relaxing delivery makes for a pleasant watch 👍
ОтветитьNice guitar, the 3 piece necks were maple and the middle piece in the pancake body would be maple too, and as far as i know the embossed pickup covers where only issued in 74.
ОтветитьThe term giddy certainly does fit. Well done kind Sir.
ОтветитьSimilar pressure messes me up when I try to record myself playing. Playing and singing is better, probably because there's more to think about and distract me.
ОтветитьI have one. In White. Love it!
Also just found this channel. Love it and love the no bollox aspect. I just dont play in guitar shops. Fuck everyone else mate.
The pedalbold.
ОтветитьI found one of these too, HHH.
I’m ditching the black for cream PUP plastics, it’s like that one dude do u feel like I do song
It’s a Keeper
ОтветитьLove it! I have a ‘74 Black Beauty Custom. I’ve left the zero frets. I like the original nubs and figure it’s ok to have to fight a bit with a 50 year old axe. Enjoy!!!
ОтветитьIt’s been a minute since I’ve seen a video of yours Colin man, but I’m glad I opened up the ‘Tube this morning. Every single video you’ve made about Les Paul’s has made me want to get one. I love the swagger and attitude you have in your playing. It’s like you lot from across the pond have it in spades. If your band ever gets back together or you join another, I’d love to see some live footage uploaded. Cheers 🤘
ОтветитьEnjoy it who cares you love it that’s all maters. I love this bloody guitars.
Ответитьplayed an early 80s black beauty at a shop in Dublin. really heavy, but the playability, feel and tone were great. custom shops get close and sometimes surpass these. relicing is alright if done well, and you can find really light examples from gibson custom. used, the prices are similar. as for performance anxiety at shops, i used to have it, then at some point stopped caring. there are less skilled players playing way louder than you at any shop. also helps to have a repertoire of a few tunes/ideas that are not zeppelin or deep purple.
ОтветитьWell the channel should be renamed “Chatty Old Geezer from Sharks Alley which would be more descriptive.
ОтветитьLOve your show a lot!!!...great info.
ОтветитьLove watching kids (any age) excited with life and what it brings, congrats~she’s a beauty…….
ОтветитьI don’t have any negative comment about this channel. The only thing that I want to say is that I was in a guitar shop last week and this person came in and picked up a Fender Squire and made it sound like a $10,000 guitar with the right amplifier and their own settings, without pedals. It’s 90% playing and 10% gear folks!
ОтветитьSorry, late to the party here, but it’s way too relatable. I’ve gone to pick up guitars I’ve had custom work done on or ordered in, and can’t hardly play them when I get inside! It’s to the point I’ve listened to stuff I’ve wrote on the way there, but I’m still drawing a blank, and can’t wait to get out of there to go play at them home.
ОтветитьHallo Colin...then you come where l want🤣...my famous 1992 Les Paul Standard l re-bought two years ago is a proper 10 pounder "boat anchor" Les Paul...l think the Les Paul must be heavy❤...if one likes better light weight guitars there's the SG... that's why you' re happy with your SGs🤣🤣🤣(your Holy Grail SG being a proper Les Paul👍👍👍)...a 4.5/5 kg LP gives you a sense of safety and solid base where to play🤣👍as Always cheers from Italy my dear friend🥂🍾👍
ОтветитьI got a similar deal with an old 69 Strat, its big thing was a lack of frets, they were worn to almost nothing... Dont waste anytime in getting it professionally refretted and brought back to life, you wont regret it !!!
ОтветитьHave you tried the Schacter black jack guitar ??
ОтветитьIf your getting this re-fretted get in touch with Simon from 81 guitar works he’s the man 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
ОтветитьJust love the fact that you were playing the CLASH. "The only band that matters."
ОтветитьI see your in complete control now
Happy playing fella…
Congratulation Colin!
Deja vu! I never liked black Les Pauls! LP Customs are way too heavy!
Guess what? Last year I stumbled over a 1995 Black Beauty at Bigfoot Guitars here in Germany - I had some time because one of my other Les Paul´s was in the Plek machine.
The guitar was lying there on a leather sofa and it looks so fantastic with the worn gold hardware and the nearly yellow binding - so I took it in my hands and this Black Beauty spoke to me from the first moment and first tone! Yes - this Lady is black and HEAVY (but well balanced!) but the Classic 57 - pickups produces an amazing special sound and the neck feels really great!
Price tag was in the range of yours - ok "only nearly 30 years old" not 50 like yours! The deal was made - my two Maybach´s 59 and a "little bit of money" were wandering into the shop and the Black Beauty home with me! I really love this guitar - those Black Customs have soul!
It was another episode of "never talk bad about a guitar before you feel, play and hear it!" Is it right for you than it is YOUR "Holy Grail"!
Have a lot of fun with this beautiful lady - this guitar seems to be very inspiring for you!
Greeting from Germany!
👋😎🎸
If a 72 is a '68, in effect, with the way prices are now, that is pretty cheap IMO
ОтветитьOriginal T Tops forever.
ОтветитьInteresting..I hade no idea people had this self conscious state when going to a music store..and I thought he had played out when younger...the axe sounds nice!..I think she looks good as is
ОтветитьGlad it's not just me!! Lol every time I go into a music store to try out guitars it's like I revert back to the first day I picked up a guitar!😫😂
ОтветитьVery nice! She's great because she has been played. A lot. Them's always the best ones.
ОтветитьYou only live once and you can't take it with you, so play what brings you joy.
ОтветитьLove the guitar reviews !! Beautiful Les Paul Custom !
Ответитьyour style of playing reminds me early 70's bands. Like CSNY.. i guess you know their sound, a little bit frantic, spicy
Ответитьfive k. you def need to control your emotions.that was a steel...for the store.
