Ah, man - ya lost me at "Green Day." This is supposed to be a PUNK tute.

I'm a very simple rhythm skate and pop punk kinda guitar player, I couldn't play an actual lead to save someone's guitar 😂. I talk to a guy who's a crazy shredder and he told me he wished he could play rhythm stuff like me and I was kinda taken aback, he said he can't do rhythm. My son is a worship guitarist at church and his style is a lead style and when he and I both play guitar at home it works really well because he's doing cool leads why i keep the rhythm 👍

Could've demoed the technique of Nicola Bryant, from Colin Baker and The Boobs, but no: She's a woman so I guess her pioneering "two-drop and push" rhythm doesn't count. She was the first woman to square up to punk and shout it loud and proud. Check out the album "Off we go...This is Colin Baker and the Boobs", currently re-released on Blu Box Records.

Back in the 90's and early 2000's there was only punk rock. No such words as pop punk, skate punk or whatever. They are all punk rock and have the attitude. They play whatever shit they want to play. I have no argument over true punks or pop punks..

Seen NOFX at the Fillmore in SF. Some guy kept tossing drinks at Eric Melvin. After a warning he did it again....then Fat Mike, El Hefe and crew jumped offstage and beat the fuck put of him and threw him out. When they were back onstage. Fat Mike said..."this ain't Green Day motherfucker! We'll throw down!!!"

Wow...A guitarist who listens to something besides himself and tries to fit in with what's going on instead of putting on a technique display for the fanboys. We need more of these kind of people. Now just talk about why play with the drums like that? For punk, it is to sound pissed off at whatever stupid stuff -- like racism, sexism, homophobia, the greedy neo-feudal business-run state we live in, or whatever -- that the song is fighting against, just like the drums sound pissed off at it. When the guitar, bass and drums make one big fucking pounding noise to show how pissed off they are at stupidity, you have punk.

These chords and rhythms are awesome, but if you want "riffs" listen to anything From Blink early 2000's and earlier

Listen to the ramones because without the ramones you wouldn't have any punk bands

No upstrokes

Pogo punk rock shouldn’t play on all the kick accents.
Straight 8ths and only accent when it counts.
Synchronizing all picking to the kick drum is what makes 90’s punk lack energy.
Bad Religion and NOFX made it work but it mostly sucked the frenzy out of punk
