Why people aren't buying Sony Xperia phones.

But for other i guess that Sony fails to offer the phone globally.
I had to buy mine during a travel…

But. Again. Hmmmm. How many real cameras can be used as a phone? Again

In my country (Indonesia) there are 2 reasons,
1.
Back then when the phones were available, the after sales service were so poor, almost all spare parts weren't available so they had to be brought from Japan and took so long.

2.
Sony decided not to sell mobile product in our country due to our local law to have some percentage of local parts inside the phone, whether software or hardware.

problem with sony is they should sent their engineer back to school. Battery draw and heating issue since my sony cybershot H2.

less software support & heating issues what prevents me from buying any Sony phones

On eBay UK they sell hundreds of these things, scroll down and every phone has a buyer, people buy them on eBay even when they sell for £1,500, so somebody is buying Sony Xperia products, even the Sony XM3/XM4/XM5 headphones have good sales on eBay,i don't understand because people are buying them,i can vouch for that, judging by eBay's standard's, Sony Xperia products are very popular, maybe not the high street but online shopping Sony Xperia are doing well

Although I did not buy the Sony, there are only a few improvements I would like to see.

1. Better DAC on the 3.5mm jack
2. Software update at least 4 years

No one know knows what the fuck does those camera settings do unless you’re an enthusiast or professional. Also whoever knows how to use it properly might already have a professional camera, why bother using a phone. A phone camera should always be idiot proof and simple

They are toooooooo expensive. Not worth it since Sony barely provides updates. In addition , Sony cannot compare to Samsung.

IMO the main problem is the 21:9 aspect ratio, they stuck with it for 5 generations now and are they're still adamant about it despite the rejection!
I love everything they offer over other brands: (side mounted scanner, 3.5mm HJ, expandable storage, compact form factor with big battery) the only thing that's breaking the deal is the aspect ratio.

My XZ2 Compact is the most comfortable phone to hold. I still have it, but the battery needs replacing. I love that it is supported by LineageOS so it is still getting updates 6 years later.

People are not buying the Sony 1 V for 2 big reason.The first one is that the first 4 iterations of one mark had a lot of issues and a high price while the 1 mark V is a top smartphone and still a high price but at least now it is as good and in some areas better than the competition.The second reason is the very bad marketing.The One mark V is a different but very potent tool in camera and audio with the most potent display and again the one mark V is the real deal but Sony seems not to know how to market this beast.The Xperia mark 5 v is a step behind.Even the naming is bad.THE SONY ONE MARK FIVE IS THE BEST SONY EVER MADE AND ONE OF THE BEST EVER MADE.

I went from Android to iphone 12pro max . It was huge step forward in terms of quality en performance, thx to that i purchased 2 apple watch ultra for me and my wife but after seeing Sony phones i considering to buy one in the future… But Big But ! only if sony makes a smartwatch like apple 🍏 i love to use it and its design i way more better the. any other brand . Im getting it next, the biggest reason why people don't buy them is because you don't get them for free or with heavy discounts with carrier trade-ins

Web browsing with Chrome and daily use are great on my Sony Xperia 1 V

Conflicted. Currently on an Xperia V III. Love fhe size, find it snappy enough for just about everything I do. Like the cameras, and how they turn out aore natural image than other phones (my girlfriend's Realme, for example, cooks pictures to death), but the segmentation in the video features are pretty annoying.

Honestly, please list out what you need in a phone.

SD.
256GB iphone, for me, ran out of memory in three months.
I was mad on backing up, because they don't let you put photos easily into PC
Instead they give you another expensive way, icloud, a long term liability.
Why Apple list price based on 128GB, 256GB, 512GB?
Why people are paying huge amount on icloud?
Because iphone never has SD slot!!!!!
That means what? SD slot worth more than $500 US
therefore, SD slot is a must.
Samsung was good. I had a few of Samsungs
Cutting the SD slot is clearly deal breaker
I will never buy Samsung again unless they add back SD slot.
2.
backdoor and fingerprint
Today, I use phones to handle money, so the phone must be safe and convenience.
I pay bills by fingerprint. Everybody put on a mask these years that made face ID useless.
Accessing online banking, putting card information....requires a phone without backdoor.
Sony, apart from Apple, is one of few brands that I can really trust.
3.
a perfect flat screen.
iphone notch/ island is still ugly after 6 years after iphone X was launched.
Samsung curve screens never let you place a protector properly on it.
Only Sony offer the flat perfect 4K screen for you.

I filtered. Sony is the only phone.

BTW, Ryan fail to give a real deal breaker not to buy Sony.

There phones are really expensive for what they dont offer 😁... Most people would want to just pick of their phones point and shoot let the AI and camera software do all the cleaning up and give us a nice photo for social media 😁 wish i could get pixel camera and software experience in that body ...Game over

At the moment I am thinking about replacing my almost 6-year-old Huawei P20 (I used it for 5 years) with Sony Xperia 5 V, so I found this video.

Well, it seems to me that Sony has very poor post-sales support. In first place I want to point at software updates. Hey, they committed themselves for a two-year software updates and three years of security patches. The model is already on market for few months so that means it's not a really two years now. And the phone is quite pricey to expect so short period of support.

On other hand, before Huawei, I used to own some Xperia phones, I was fan of their products and my Sony Z3 Compact Tablet is still working like the first day. Although it runs on Android 6.0 :) But for sure, it gives an obsolete feeling when used. I see similar UI design on Xperia 5 V in this video, ah!

Another thing, I can't buy it in my country! So, I need to order it online from some UK or US shops.

So, I am not sure. The camera performance is important to me as well as software support. Maybe, for that price, the better solution would be Huawei, Pixel or Samsung?

Their cameras outshine those of Xiaomi, Samsung, and even Apple, not to mention compact APS-C mirrorless cameras. The photos captured aren't overprocessed, cartoonish oil paintings like the ones from Xiaomi, Samsung, and Apple. You can literally print Sony smartphone camera photos on a large scale for your house wallpaper, a feat only DSLRs or MFT cameras can match.

Perhaps Apple will persevere with ProRAW, but there's this.

I did buy Xperia 5 V

Sony designers 10/10, the design and form factor is just what I'm looking for. Sony marketing and sales 1/10, clueless. If they provided proper compatibility with US carriers and 3-4 years of updates...oh and a cable I'd buy one in a NY second.

Somehow i trusted the hype & bought the XPERIA 1 V & now more than 6 months & 3 software updates later i have to admit that the Camera is absolute TRASH !!! I managed to install a ported Google Camera App & things got somewhat better, but all in all this Phone is seriously mediocre, the OS is one pure non-customisable ugliness & the Camera is GARBAGE !!! iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 & 13 Pro make way better photos than the XPERIA 1 V...

As far as the 1 V goes, the speakers definitely aren't as great as the speakers from a Galaxy S23U or any iPhone series 12 and up.

The haptics are complete junk. It's doesn't even feel like it's using a haptic engine, but rather an old school rotary vibrator, which there isn't even an option to adjust the intensity of.

I totally agree with the lackluster of a UI this has. With how very basic those UI, it's still surprising how there are just so many basic features missing from it, which makes no sense. It's one of the things that drives me nuts, using it. Even the Pixel doesn't feel this vanilla.

I'm sure Sony can afford to hire a few UIX developers. As small as Nothing is, they've done a wonderful job with their UI.

And as much as I actually love the look of the 1 V, it surely doesn't feel as premium as other flagship phones. Definitely doesn't have the quality feel you experience with handling Sony's cameras.

people don't buy sony phones just because they're stupid. This company makes phones for people who have a bit higher level of intelligence. This is obviously a bad decision and that's probably why sony will end up the phones making soon. I don't know why Sony does this. People are looking for primitive things that are at the level of their low iq, people don't need something where they have to thinking. For instance apple makes photos all artificial, well lit and edited and this is what people want. Besides, people want what their neighbors and colleagues have.

I feel sorry for sony, it was a good company. Sony does not want to accept the fact that people are not as intelligent as they were in the 80s

I am still using Sony XZ2 which I bought in 2018. I remember in December 2022 while at Canada Wonderland at -10 C, I could still take pictures and videos. Battery performance wasn't affected while my husband's samsung drained rapidly 😂.

Do they support esim?? What happens if I have one physical Sim and SD card and want to add another esim line while traveling??

All my life I have been using Sony. Infact , my last Sony was stolen in August 2022. I was forced to buy Nokia (it's a stupid phone it doesn't hv any of Sony's features) if only Sony companies will bring it to Nigeria, I'll do anything to have Sony seriously. Bcos it will always be the best phone ever.

I had a Sony phone years ago, about 10 years ago. I liked it right up to the point that the apps and everything just kept freezing and inputs were very unresponsive. Do these problems still exist or do they run pretty smoothly nowadays?

These phones are professionals & enthusiastic people. Not for normal people who have iphone pro phones but they don't even use their full features😂

I am using a Sony (previously Sony Ericsson) phone for about 20+ years, my last one Xperia 1 III purchased a week after they came out in Japan a bit over 2 and a half years ago. I like the phones because yes they have always had to have everything available software and hardware, they are durable and since ages ago i never had to worry if my phone gets wet or even dropped during rain, taking a shower with, or even go across the river with it while submersed in water. That security is what attracts me the most despite all the bells and whistles they have.
Their sales can also be redirected to Sony shrinking the availability across the world, and the availability across the size of people's pockets as well. While Sony had their phones available across all the markets in different price groups, for different people 20 years ago, now they barely release a few phones and they are all in the top half or trying to compete on the top of the flagship space. This is one of the things i dont like. Another thing is, they seem to have adjusted their views to the Japanese life and companies, so every year there is a new phone, 2 years later the phone stops being sold, 3 years later they can't even repair it. Maybe luckily the resemblance of the Xperia 1's may have brought better repairability, however 5 years ago when i came to Japan i purchased XZ premium, 2 years later being unable to replace it they gave me Xperia 1 (the first model) as a replacement. Their warranty services offered by providers make the phones in Japan 20-40% more expensive than elsewhere in the world, despite being a Japanese company......
I do love my 1III though, it is still as snappy and seamless as the first day it arrived despite being over 2 and a half years old, but i don't like the bloated camera apps and functions, they really should have added an AIO camera app that does it all by few simple clicks. Also missing the compact phones, sad they didnt dig that and use it out of the Japanese minimalistic point of view...
