Been a practitioner and teacher since the 80s.

When you see someone treating Xingyi Quan in a similar light as Taijiquan… stressing push hands type of applications … if your interested in learning real Xingyiquan , just walk away from them.

Xingyiquan is an advance form of pugilism, it is based on dominating the opponents centerline by taking control of the angles… not by push hands, not by sticky hand … Xingyiquan does it by using attacks and counter attacks. The methods themselves seize control of the angle in play …

By treating applications similar to Taijiquan’s one also miss the syncopation and timing that xingyiquan is all about. Its creators understood tempo … Xingyiquan exist in the “in-between beats of the tempo of a fight. A simple example: people will jab (on 1) the throw a cross (on 2) for a quick 1, 2 (for two beats… ) Pi Quan does not teach 1, 2 … it teaches dominating the angle on 1 (with the rise and drill which is similar to wedge block defense) and striking almost simultaneously (with overturn and fall… ). Its not a 1 & 2 … It’s 1 &….

All Mother fists teach strategies and tactics like the above

To anyone who knows anything about the subject, how would Xing Yi Quan hold up to Baji Quan? In my travels in China, these were the two styles that most often were referred to as the most practical, efficient styles of Kung Fu.

Xing Yi Quan can defeat 5 at once. Wing Chun can defeat 10 enemies at once. But one on one is where they lose badly. lol Very nice fantasy film. Each attacker waiting their turn to attack and getting killed by standard karate and kung fu moves. Beautifully shot.

So they all wait to attack you one at a time? And when they attack you, they punch towards your hands and don't do combinations? Okay...

Ancient chinese general Yue Fei used predominantly Xing Yi Quan in his battles against his enemies and succesfully protected the Song dynasty from being overrunned by the Jin Dynasty, so does this chinese Kungfu works? YES!

Having practiced Xing Yi, I can say it is a legitimate self-defense art. However, this video is hype and choreography. No one grabs your throat, waits their turn to punch you.

He's not fat, just strong built. Pretty sure he can mess you up.
