I love the new market mechanics, and to be honest, I'm planning a playthrough as Brazil or Argentina where all I do is become one massive military factory and sell the world loads of guns.

Karl marx and lenin wrote about how the revolution cant succeed unless its a global phenomenon. To them it was impossible to fight global capitalism as a lone socialist society and 2 they both had 3 clear stages of "socialist development". First was the dictatorship of the proletariat meaning that the masses take over (not totalitarianism but with a red coat of paint). During this stage the state still exists and money and markets and all still exist. Businesses are all turned to co ops the army is abolished and replaced by soldiers council. Democracy is massively expanded and money is taken completely out of politics. Being a politician as a career path is no longer a choice. After this comes socialism or lower stage communism. Money and the state is abolished but we still use vouchers to facilitate trade of services and goods. Vouchers are one time use so you can do everything capital can do minus investments. Normally capital is wealth that can be used to produce more wealth but vouchers are strictly just wealth. During actual communism even vouchers are abolished and we all just share shit although a market can probably still develop without capital and with everybody having the ability to just share the market cant bring the inequalities of capital. This again doesnt work if the socialist project is contained within one country. Lenin was super doomer about the german revolution ending and stalin thought the same with stalin even getting a written statement out about how the socialist project going super bad. 6 months after that stalin did a full 180. He retracted the statement and banned the full collection of marx. He published new marxist leninist books that that completely changed what communism and socialism was. From now on socialism was whatever the party wanted to be. Stalin then started calling the ussr already socialist even tho under marx socialist country or socialist state is oxymoronic. After that the ussr was forced into the geopoliticks game. Imperialism was back on the table and most importantly the ussr had to have trade relations. Capitalist countries dont give a fuck about you if there are no economic ties. Now that the ussr had to trade it meant that their economy could never be decommodified. They were larping as commies while under marx they trapped themselves into an early stage of the dictatorship of the proletariat with no way forward. So yeah trade relations might be antithetical to a socialist project but stalins ussr abandoned that idea long before 1936.

Honestly hate to ruin the meme here but I love history so I find it interesting that the soviets actually sold a bunch of grain during their first few 5 year plans in order to pay for industrial expansion. Which means ISP is basically just reinventing with something that takes life instead of giving it which ironically sounds more like Stalinism to me than what Stalin did.
