I loved the beach scene and the Italian Gardens, his last I think just before he passed. I worked with Karl for two years, an incredible experience. I was supposed to take over the tailoring side but passed over the opportunity and ended up working with Ines de la Fressange. The head of 'flou' at Chanel is one of my apprentices. As for the witch herself I've read so much on her that I gag at the stuff people praise her for. She hated both jews and gays and was an all round bad person.
ОтветитьChanel XX iconic forever 🤗
Imposible !!!
They just can call me to give it a boost ☺
So much ideas to give it new expression.
You mentioned an 18% drop in revenue during 2020, which is remarkable considering most of the Boutiques were closed for months and global travel was halted due to Covid, plus as a business they do not sell fashion items online.
Comparing the spectacularly unwearable Schiaparelli couture pieces to a wearable Chanel couture collection shows how viable their HC business is, they sell wearable couture not art pieces that are not possible for the modern woman to use.
Much of the noise surrounding Chanel quality often comes from those cashing in on speaking on scandals or those who are now priced out of Chanel as a consumer. Their boutiques have waiting lists for many of their handbags, go and see the lines outside the Chanel store when a new collection launches. It’s a power the other brands could only ever dream of.
Virginies collections may be a stark contrast to KLs extravagant offerings but they have a broader appeal to the younger generation who can afford pieces, Chanel is not for everyone and it’s not meant for everyone, hence the pricing strategy.
The fact that quality has drastically decreased with many fashion houses while prices rise isn't discussed enough. One can't solely depend on brand recognition for luxury. Yes we love designs, presentations and colors, however quality is a key element of luxury.
ОтветитьI'm Jewish and I had NO IDEA about Chanel. I suppose the difference is unlike Hugo Boss there was a direct break from the ownership & profits coming directly from from that source, but it has definitely given me something I need to rethink. The fact that the entire ownership was passed to a Jewish person in the 70s is 💋 chef's kiss 😂
ОтветитьPossibly emerging markets influence. When firm has codified looks they will exploit them to the very end. In emerging markets people are not looking so much for creativity but instead for social signaling with easily recognizable codes for wealth, success and upper class status. The value of Chanel bag is in opportunity to signal to others: I am better than you. This trend will continue until 3rd World is fully satiated. Firms become hostage of their own singular design look, similar to what is happening in luxury watch world where few prominent brands dominate the market with pretty much one watch model (Audemar Piquet with Royal Oak, Rolex with Daytona or Omega with Speedmaster)
ОтветитьThe way I see it is that classic and minimalist clothes are what is timeless. If I am going to spend Chanel prices on something, it is not trendy and flashy stuff that will be out in 6 months tops anyway. Call me boring and conservative, and I am, but plain clothes are the ones that you can wear for years.
ОтветитьFINALLLLLLY
Ответить"The clothes were the same" Of course the designer has to follow conservative Chanel house code. It's not that bad actually. The recent collections were decent. Don't compare with Schiaparelli whose DNA is about bold surreal designs - very different.
Ответитьwhen I grow up one of my dreams would be to be the creative director for Chanel and bring it back to what it could be because it is always one of my favorite brands and it pains me that it is in this state today.
ОтветитьIt seems rather trumpist to suggest that the only reason Chanel gets praised by magazines is because they pay them for advertising
ОтветитьChanel has fallen the date when Karl no longer worked their! Chanel lost their directions and Nothing news coming to Details, Colors, and New Trends 😢
ОтветитьLa ambición la llevó a la ruina🤷♂️se notaba lo malvada🤔😅y ahora más caro y peor calidad cada dia🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
ОтветитьIf you ever want to experience overpriced and poor quality products in combination with toilet level customer service, you have to hit the Chanel boutique in Zurich
ОтветитьI’m looking back at a video of Spring/Summer Haute Couture 2020 by Loic Prigent and think the collection is delicious. I wish people would look at this before dismissing Virginie out of hand. Maybe it is the guys in suits, as you suggest, holding her back? If they are, shame on them. Virginie didn’t spend thirty years at Lagerfeld’s side for nothing.
ОтветитьLove your work. Many thanks for the research and perspective you bring. As a student of fashion dating back to my time in NYC in the 1970’s growing up with the cremè de La cremè I love the retrospective you give.
ОтветитьLet’s acknowledge what made her anti semitic… 🤔 the Jewish company that owns her rights today, dogged her on Chanel no. 5 …🥴
ОтветитьVery well done, BUT: After the failure of her first after-war-collection, she became extremely successfull and famous again in the fifties and in the first half of the sixties. That was the time when she (re-) defined the codes of the house Karl Lagerfeld played so utterly clever with.
And I totally agree: it was HIM who brought the house of CHANEL to it‘s present glory and in doing so, he also contributed to the No. 1 position of Paris as THE fashion place.
In the early eighties, this position had been heavily questioned.
So, finally: the french should put Karl on Napoleon‘s column on la place Vendôme...
I enjoyed the Chanel Tunnel do best.
Ответитьnooo I adored this brand D: what a shame
ОтветитьFavorite set was the beautiful paper flowers that bloomed at the finale.
ОтветитьI do love their fragrance bleu de chanel, it’s the only product I buy from them
ОтветитьForgot to add ,again in the title
ОтветитьI enjoy your videos very much. Bravo!
ОтветитьAhhh the delights of dealing with j€₩$ in business 😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьI think if I was tasked with reinvigorating the brand, in my first show, I would not have ANY jackets or suits. You can only do that combo in so many ways before it is just boring. Couture is supposed to be fashion forward, or cutting edge. The "Channel Suit" can be neither of those things.
ОтветитьJohn Galliano is the designer they need to put some life back into the brand.
ОтветитьWonderful video!
ОтветитьThank you for saying out loud what I was thinking : Virginie Viard's collections are boring. Only Loïc Prigent is crazy about them (or pretends to be).
ОтветитьVirginie needs to go and a truly iconic designer needs to take her place. But Chanel is already iconic and will never truly fall. It will always be revived and it has now too much history to not be reinvented time and time again.
ОтветитьSchiaparelli when? Please!!!!!
ОтветитьDincklage is a German surname, so why do you pronounce it in the English way?
ОтветитьUnfortunately, Virginie Vjard has been turning Chanel into the blandest Couture house in Paris. The answer to the question is the fault of Virginie? Partially yes, she was great as the right hand of Karl, but she is not really a designer, at least not one of the level of Chanel. And having worked with Karl for so many years became a disadvantage instead of an advantage. It is not completely her fault since the management at Chanel who made the decision to appoint her to that role, should have thought of that. And should have perhaps taken seriously that when Karl was asked who he would be his successor, he named Haider Ackermann and not his loyal Virginie. I wonder why that was.
Ответитьit’s really disappointing to see high end brands like chanel and prada nosedive in quality. people loved chanel largely because of their beautiful, timeless designs, exceptional craftsmanship and use of quality materials. the brand name wasn’t the major selling point.
now, all chanel has going for it is their iconic brand recognition. it’s no surprise that their most popular clothes and accessories are monogrammed with the chanel logo or name.
I think their clothes are not relevant anymore. Their outfits fit the last century but not the current century, generation and style. So now it's bought because it's a brand name not anything else.
Ответитьpost karl lagerfeld = dead chanel
ОтветитьChanel is trash now, trash when Karl was there, and trash when she was a nazi. Trash all around
ОтветитьArmani products are not quality either. Has gone down hill in the last 20 years.
Ответитьi think chanel style was mostly Gamin and 20s-inspired outfits.
ОтветитьIs there any archive or something where I could watch all those older shows with the grander-than-life sets?
ОтветитьSo she was a Nazi but needed a Jewish man to help her company…😂🙈
ОтветитьChanel is no longer luxury, exclusive or well made. But they are charging a premium.
ОтветитьCan you make a vid about brands that still has great quality? Like moynat, delvaux…etc
ОтветитьChanel it is alleged to have slept with a Nazi officer who had a high rank and that's how she and her business got saved. Fast forward to present day Chanel; they are extremely arrogant in their business dealings and, I've gone into several Chanel stores and unless you look privileged, even the sales lady treat one as if you are a sub-citizen. I prefer to support Louis Vuitton, their staff are polite even if you're not dripping in jeweler and fake wealth. These people forget, the very people who look or pretend to be wealthy, are just a few pay checks away, from being broke. They live the life but are not the life.
ОтветитьSo, the mind behind the Chanel is Karl? Karl is Chanel? Am i right?
ОтветитьI feel the same way, in a near future Chanel will no longer be the top iconic fashion house in the world. But I don't think it will be Dior either because Maria doesn't have much revolution on design either. It also can be that, thanks to social media, no more top iconic fashion houses in the world, people buy, wear and mix with all brands, decentralization I mean. 😉😎
ОтветитьA brand is good as it's creative director. Karl is dead, and the new one failed.
