Hey Tyler. Liking your post. Re not having a “giant railway that goes all around the country”, the folks at Amtrak, are going to be disappointed in you. It’s a giant passenger railway, that literally goes all around your country. As a Canadian, I know this, but to be fair, my father was a railway enthusiast, and I have met some Amtrak engineers professionally. Might be worth a future piece for you…

Sadly all these historic pictures have now been removed. Replaced by some generic animals etc etc. They said its to make it more welcoming to new immigrants. Honesty its just whitewashing our colonial history.

The totally out-dated term Eskimo is predominantly seen as offensive. Eskimo was the name used by the Europeans in the 16 century into the early 19 century that was used to refer to all northern arctic circle, north pole indigenous people and categorised them all as one. They were the indigenous people inhabiting northern Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Aleutian islands and eastern Siberia, Russia . Some are of the same names as in Canada as in USA as these people did indeed reside freely and widely across the continent of NORTH AMERICA until the Europeans drew the line on that (the border) when Britain, France, Spain, and the Netherlands (dutch ) came along.

The Northwest Territories were divided into NWT (pop. 45,000) and Nunavut (pop. 39,000) in 1999, to reflect ethnic reality. The Dene people were the majority in the western part of the territory, and Inuit were the majority in the eastern part. Two very different cultures and languages. Nunavut in the Inuktatut language means "our land."

Recently Canada settled a ''war'' with Denmark over an ''island'' in the Arctic, a big bare rock actually, and the decision came down to 60% to Denmark and 40% Canadian. So we now have land border with Denmark.

Le Gasp!

He's from Vancouver. That's where the 'aboot' comes from!

I have been wondering for over two decades where people actually pronounce about like that. It's not central Canada, it's not the French, it's not the maritimes or the newfies, no. It's hiding all the way on the west coast.

Sorry, just venting about my personal frustration with a canadian stereotype that I had never seen evidence of.

The spike guy is named Donald Smith(company director of the railroad company) to complete the Canadian Pacific Railway on 7 November 1885. Russia is trying to claim the north part of the world. Lots of natural ressources to expoit there.
