A momentous win for the Irish double of Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy who did us proud in Ireland! Winning an Olympic Final is the Ultimate achievement in rowing. The commentator was very complimentary to Paul O' Donovan & Fintan McCarthy. It was a fabulous race among a fine field of scullers (rowers with an oar in each hand), especially between the German's and the Irish toward the end. That's the thing with rowing - every stroke counts. The Irish double showed great strength to come through the flying German's and win! The old rowing adage 'you only have to be farther ahead at the finish than you were at the start' is the measure of winning and all it takes. Well done all, and well done our humble heroes!

Fantastic win. For those having a go at the commentator, she has praised the boys all during the regatta and was more shocked they didn't win by a bigger margin but said it was effective. As to the comment about the way O Donovan holds his oars, most commentators from several countries have said the same thing including Irish commentators. There was nothing Salty about her comment. The saltines is coming from the keyboard warriors

It wasn't pretty? They put on some burst of acceleration with 300 meters to go... pulled like dogs for the gold.

eurosport need to fire their commentators, there’s so many weird comments “it wasn’t exactly pretty”, what does that even mean? They won by half a boat length. Why do the british always try to rewrite narratives after races.

To put the record straight, Skibbereen was on the map long before 5 years ago (1845-52), when thousands starved while London watched. Dr Dan Donovan wrote about in a plea for help. Little help came.
