Happy s/k is still going on making tools.
ОтветитьThat’s amazing I use almost 80yr old ratchet/sockets and wrenches SK daily my grandfather’s and I was worried what would happen to the brand.
ОтветитьHello again, Catus Maximus and Tiny
Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I enjoyed watching tonight's video. Again thank you 👌
✌️
ОтветитьNice set!
ОтветитьI do like the ball end Allen wrenches. The last USA made Craftsman set I bought which was probably the last one, the Allen wrenches were in lil' bags which is a mess. Very similar to this set.
ОтветитьWhen i was still a machinist, SK were my favorite wrenches. I've been curious to see if the chinese parts would still be good.
This set looks impressive, and i like how the case can split.
I bought a 1/2 in set of chrome sockets from them when I heard of the sale to Great Star, hoping I'd get a Legacy us made one but got a Chinese made one about a year a half ago.
At first I was disappointed it was not a USA one, but it is quite good. Not like the old SK, but quite well made.
Better than most Chinese stuff.
The catflick.
ОтветитьThanks for the deep dive into the new Chinese SK. Lowes sold X Frame wrench sets around the Christmas Holidays that were made in China, Peoples Republic of. They seem to be ok. Very interesting ratchet internals. I'm surprised it wasn't at least oiled lightly. Reminded of a cross between dual 80 spring loaded pawl gears and the X Frame design. SK seems to have two new versions of itself. The SK Tools website is mostly older designs and US made whereas, Amazon seems to be mostly the new Great Star owned made in PRC items. Some of the new SK picks, pliers, & screwdrivers resemble Duratek versions but, use black & green instead of blue/black. Thanks for sharing, I don't think anyone on You Tube has showed the internals of the new ratchet. Good Job!!!
ОтветитьFor 200 dollars you get alot of bang for the buck seems reasonably priced compared to Milwaukees 56 peice set that you pay 200 for when not on sale on sale 100 dollars I'd pay 100 dollars more for the sk hands down
ОтветитьI got a 10 minute commercial for Apple during this video! Ridiculous.
ОтветитьThanks for taking one for the team, so to speak, on this lol
I was curious about this. I love the LP90 ratchets except the stiff direction switch.
We used to break down the Craftsman cases like that and just put them in a drawer. Though my father took it one step further and trimmed one so it fit better lol
I want to buy one of those ratchets. Hopefully they will have longer handle with flex head in the near future
ОтветитьThey are still producing the USA made line at a new factory location in the US. The LP 90 low profile ratchets are made there. They're also producing the same ratchet for Olsa tools in the US. It just has the Olsa logo on it. I may still buy a few SK tools, but it will only be the USA made line. At my age, I've had enough bad experiences with Chinese made tools to ever buy any again. I'll buy US, Japan, or Taiwan any day over Chinese made.
ОтветитьI can tell you haven't worked with your hands in a long time
ОтветитьSmall correction, great star owns LISTA Europe. LISTA north American is owned by Stanley black&decker. 😅 Idk how that happened, but it's similar to Recaro Germany being a different company to Recaro Japan/United states.
ОтветитьInherited my dads SK from the late 50s?- early 60s. Love them
ОтветитьCan you do some more of the big “overview and comparison” type videos??? I learned so much from those.
The ones where you take say all your needle nose pliers and compare them. While you also talk about the history of that tool, the evolution of it, how to use, demonstrate it, talk about all the manufacturing process and manufacturers, etc..
Thanks for another good video as always!
I saw that 15mm and when you first opened it and im sure its mostly fine but it looks like a cheaper set i dont recall seeing that on my husky set thats bigger that i got for $100 around Christmas years ago
ОтветитьThese aren't SK, they're green Duratrash.
ОтветитьMr Maximus, Thanks for the history lesson and background check. What a pity another American name has come under the control of PRC.
ОтветитьI had a couple of ratchets that were sounded on their last legs jamming and not smooth at all. I used some Isoflex PDP 61 A oil I found thrown away and now theyre right as rain.
Is a specialty synthetic oil for teletypewriters and other precision instruments. Worked great on those junk ratchets.
Lovely set.
Sk is now rebranded duracraft
ОтветитьI think that is a fantastic set. The case coming apart like that is really convenient. The sockets look great. It's just an all-around good-looking set that I would purchase
ОтветитьHonestly looks pretty good. I get the hate or distaste for offshoring but Great Star can make some good stuff. The Arrow and Pony/Jorgensen brands are still good, and I've heard the new shop vac stuff is fine
ОтветитьWhat a freaking awesome idea for storing in your tool chest and I LOVE the nice deep large numbers on the sockets.
ОтветитьSorry but nope move back to Taiwan or no
ОтветитьAmazing set for that prize. Definitely a comprehensive set to have almost everything if you're new to screwing around ;). These sockets look excellent, also nice stamping. Greetings from Germany.
ОтветитьIndustrial looking socket set 👍
ОтветитьI just received the SK 1/4" Pear head ratchet ordered from Amazon. Nice looking but the internals were garbage. Out of the 25+ 1/4" ratchets that I own, this had the WORST backdrag I've even seen. It was egregious to the point of being unusable. After being more progressively grossed out over it's mechanism the more I examined it, I couldn't bag the thing up quickly enough and submit my return to Amazon. I think I'm to the point where I'm only going to purchase very inexpensive Chinese tools, like the surprisingly nice, 1/4" drive "Intertool" offset ratchet that I just picked up for $7.49. But if it's more than say $10, I'll probably stick to Taiwanese companies.
ОтветитьGreat review and I can definitely relate to why you'd appreciate "still seeing SK around." Unfortunately, they're not even a shell of their former selves. I've tried 3 "new" Chinese ratchets from SK and I just returned the 3rd one today. They were just terrible... as an old SK fan, it was sad for me to be honest. The quality was far behind comparably priced Taiwanese tools.
ОтветитьNot a bad looking set overall. I just don't think I'll be purchasing any new SK tools any time soon.
ОтветитьMade in China huh? I'm out. Love my old sets though.
ОтветитьWonder if SK will still offer 3/4 drive stuff....I have my grandfather's SK-Wayne set from the mid "60s and they are still going like a Sherman tank.
ОтветитьFor me the 5 price pliers set with the pliers wrench 3 cobra and twin grip knock offs looks real nice and the modular tool box looks really nice.
ОтветитьWhen china ccp bought SK, it lost its viability with me.
ОтветитьLotion. Lots of it. Every day. Multiple times. Lotion.
ОтветитьX-Frames are no longer USA made. Only thing USA made is: Chrome sockets, turbo sockets, pliers, some extensions and the LP90 ratchets.
ОтветитьMeh, set looks mediocre and cheap, especially the ratchets. The way the drive sizes scale would annoy the crap out of me. Should have just made it 1/4 and 3/8 and ditched 1/2. Grey Pneumatic Duo Socket sets would be the MUCH better buy.
ОтветитьIs there a max torque or breakage test for these ratchets? I didn't purchase the boxed set just the 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchets and the ratchet action is silky smooth.
ОтветитьThe new tripple layer chrome is garbage. Theyre scamming people and still calling themselves SK USA. Im only buying used USA made SK tools. No one should buy the junk theyre selling now. Go out and get yourself Gearwrench, Tekton, or even Icon.
ОтветитьOld sk sockets are the best
ОтветитьI actually just bought this set and the 1/4” 2” extension was stamped toulsen not SK. I mentioned it to SK and they didn’t even offer to correct it.
ОтветитьBits and Allen wrenches do not belong in a mechanic's tool set. If they are there it is 100% automatic junk.
ОтветитьSadly, there are no more DIY or mid-range hand tools made in the USA. SK has gone the way of Craftsman into the land of Chinesium
ОтветитьWe have USA made jumbo wrenches at my work that we use. Phenomenal wrenches
ОтветитьJunk tools by SK. Pittsburg and Icon performed far better in our tests. So did Husky.
