I love your reviews and what a great watch, just a shame I can’t afford one. But anyway, the issue with “divers” watches and this ONLY had 50 meters water resistance, if I was a diver going down into the murky dangerous depths I wouldn’t be relying on a luxury watch, I’d be using a modern divers wrist computer to keep me safe and a cheaper mechanical watch as a back up for time such as a Seiko SKX009. Maybe the real reason it’s only got 50 metres as there’s no water on the moon! 😂

The Speedy will always be my grail watch. Truly an absolute legend.

I was about to purchase a Speedmaster a week ago. Once on the wrist, the 42mm wore quite small in comparison to the Seamaster 300m and the Aqua Terra that have same size cases. So, I went for a Seamaster that just had more presence and felt more robust.

50m of water resistance from Omega is perfectly fine. You’re not even going to go swimming in it.

Also, the bracelet got an on the fly adjustment clasp in early 2023. It’s 1 half link adjustment around 2.3mm.

I agree. It is probably my all time favorite watch design. I wore that exact 3861 Hesalite for about a year, but then I ultimately decided that I wanted the sapphire version, so I sold it. Right now I have the discontinued Speedy Racing 40mm, but maybe I’ll add the SS Moonwatch one day. I do prefer how my Racing wears on my wrist more so than the Moonwatch.

Also, you can get the new Speedy with on the fly adjust, but it looks like you have the previous 3861 clasp like I had. Might want to double check that you don’t have it though

I’d like to get a speedmaster but I can’t because I don’t like to have to remove my watch when washing my hands. The water resistance is ridiculous for a watch these days.

It's nice but, £6K for a pro spec watch with a plastic lens and only 50m water resistance?.. plus the dial is too busy for my 55yr old eyeballs.

The two reasons I did not pick one up back in the early 90s - hesalite and 30M WR. It was way more affordable back then but still not worth it.

The new white dial is spectacular. I choose a 57 instead because it looks like the original

I might be wrong but I believe the newer version also has hacking whilst the older one you'd have to balance the crown to make make the second hand run backwards which was a fun way to hack.

I loved my speedmaster but just so u know qualified divers go 18 meters max and advanced diving is 30 max and oxygen is poisions at around 50m so no watch needs to be more than 50m which means it will hold at twice that depth.

I have a little personal story about the speedy, my brother received a pre-moon landing speedy for graduating from Law School and owned it for years and it was in perfect condition. I found out a couple years ago that he sold it... for... $1500 😳. He didn't know what he had, or how much it was actually worth. Don't worry, I made him feel like a right idiot for that one!

I will never get rid of my Speedy! I wore it every day for 15 years! My manual crown broke a year ago, NOW I CAN’T EVEN AFFORD TO FIX IT!!!!!!!

I bought mine at Costco. I think it was 2006? Came in just under 4k. I passed it, then did a second take. I was like, “OMG, STAY COOL!” I had it taken out of the case. I was in my 30’s I’d done everything they told me to do in life up till this point. Somehow I had the fundage. It was on my mind all week! I couldn’t stop thinking about it! I gave myself an excuse to go back into the same Costco a week later. I may have had all that cash in my pocket, and there it was. The employee that got it for me was like, “This is the only one I’ve ever seen at this location.” I walked out of the store without my 4k, but I was like a little kid! I wore it everyday, doing whatever, not babying it, not even taking the best care of it. My fingertips had two small calluses on them when the crown stopped winding. I almost cried. I never flashed it, nor showed it off. In all its glory, I only once got a compliment for it. Sure I bought, and own a bunch of “other watches,” but it’s now in my safe, cos I can’t afford the $500.00 it’s gonna cost me to fix it. This was about a year ago. I’ve stopped wearing a watches on a daily basis since. I PUT THAT THING THROUGH HELL, AND BACK! My son in law took a soft bristle DREMEL polish tip to it, thinking he would clean it up for me, and ended up putting two fat dips onto the “plexiglass!” I love the dude, so I could never be mad at him. These days “an extra $500.00,” is something I cannot afford. I need to start an eBay account, and start selling a bunch of shit I don’t need, so I can actually afford something I love more than almost all my other “worldly possessions,” to be fixed!

I own the sapphire sandwich and it’s incredible. It was my first luxury watch and it was the heroin for me in this addiction. Fast forward 4 years and 13 luxury pieces plus countless more Seiko, gshock, micro, and more later I’m in deep but I still have and will always have my speedy: it’s the most perfect watch. To me it KILLS a Daytona. It’s crazy how ppl are playing 25 to 35k on Daytona and you can get a new speedy for less than 6k. It’s better in every way!!

I bought the same speedy on Jomashop with a nylon deployment strap then bought the no gap rubber strap at a boutique and put the deployment clasp on it. Then after seeing this video I had to get the bracelet, sapphire sandwich $800. Worth it. One on the fly adjust. So beautiful.

Note: The tiny link plugs come very tight on Omegas. At Home Depot I bought a Husky screwdriver set with carbide heads. Like $13. The 1/16 head fits those plugs perfectly. No play.

I wish I could have one but I'm poor and can't have one but I'm still going to get a plastic watch ⌚😭
