Japan would be Cipango , Khitai = China , Turan = Otoman empire , Hirkanya = Scythians , Sarmatians , Alans and Slavs with influences of the Byzantine Empire , Corinthia = Ancient Greece , Zingara = The Spain of the XVI / XVII centuries , Aquilonia the France of Charlesmagne , Ophir and Koth would be like the Italian states of the Renaissance , Stygia = ancient Egypt ' Aesgard and Vanaheim = Norway and Sweden , Cimmeria = like a mix between Denkmark , Ireland and the Alps ( always despised as mountainous area ) being the Cimmerians probably a pre - Celtic people but most likely also heavily influenced by the pre - Scandinavians Aesgard and Vanaheim due their geographical proximity , Shem = Phoenicians (Although they don't have sea tho ) and other Semitic tribes , Zamora would be kinda like medieval Morocco , Algeria , Tunisia..about Brythunia being the Baltic states never heard before but it also makes sense , i always associated Brythunia with Britain being some kind of Celtic tribes similar to the ones the Romans found in Britain , Nemedia always is associated with the Roman empire but since it doesn't have coast very unlike that they would reach that level , Nemedia is more likely some Western European kingdom of the medieval age , Vendhya is definitely akin to India , Pakistan , Bangladesh and Sri Lanka...i think i forgot some , let me know what you think about it , anyway thanks for making this video is just great and very entertaining

Conan as a legendary figure comes from Irish/Welsh folklore, with his name featured with the same spelling in the Banquet of Dun na n-Gedh and the Battle of Magh Rath that followed.

I saw some of these a bit differently, however was a good job on your part and program, the Brythunian folk I see as proto Briton, and said in such a way Bryth, the th being a t sound, etc Shem of course giving rise to the Semetic folk later, Arabs, Amorites, Akkadian, Hebrew etc

I thought that Hyperborea people was inspired by proto-slavic cultures so not only russians. But all Slavic nations. And Finns are completly different people thes slavs and baltic tribes. But i guess in Howard times especialy in america this was not common knowledge.

I am always trying to convince my friends to start reading Conan, but they just laugh it off. I read the Hyborian Age first and I was like wtf this is great and then I read all the short stories and fell absolutely in love with Howards world and it's characters. Hats off to you, sir! Thank you for keeping Conan's name out there. Absolutely no tv show or no movie will ever do it the proper justice. REH wrote so much good stuff, it is insane to imagine that he died at the age of 30. I am 31 and I hate every word I write down to craft my own story lol

Arguably the Vikings had there origins in today's Denmark. Most Norse cultures looked like each other before the Viking age. The Celtic people weren't a unified people, the closest it came to it they spilt into two a french and german faction. That also spread to the British isles, most prominent in Scotland and Ireland from one of the group's and the Welsh from the other.

I just read REH’s collection and in his world ‘history’ section on the hyborian age, it said that the descendants of nemedians became the Irish and the descendants of the brythunians became the britons. Yet every thing I read on the topic said that nemedia was Germanic and brythunia was Eastern European. Did I miss something in his writing or is that just some revision after REH’s death?

Cimmerians are also taken from world history from the bronze age, they were from Black Sea in modern day Crimea... They are mentioned by other cultures histories for their invasions of modern day Turkey/ Pontice/Asia minor. they had ties to both the Greek world and the indo-Iranian Scythians of the Siberian step.

In my head canon, The pictes are the "ancestors" of all of the Native americans, Because most of the arts represent them being brown skinned, dark hair & eyes. Maybe the ones who landed in Hyboria eventually mixed with other cultures to become the scottish. But by the looks and name of their tribes, they are basically Natives americans.

Hey great video although I have a question so i hope you read my comment. Where is it stated that the people of Ophir and Koth are Hittites? The Wiki, both Marvel and Conan state that they are either Hyborian (or atleast Hyborian influenced) or some older culture group that was around since the days of (possible before) Acheron. The name Hittites is never mentioned and even google just refers me to the historical Hittites and nothing in relation to Conan.

And second point, given the cultural similarities would it be fair to classify the Corinthians as part of this Hittite culture group in Conan aswell or are they Hyborian or something else entirely?

Basically the only thing we know about Brythunia from R. E. Howard's own writings that wasn't mentioned here is that Brythunian women are renowned for their beauty and are highly sought-after in the slave trade. :/

In that sense, there also seems to be some similarity with the so-called "Circassian beauties" of our own history.

To be honest from what I can find myself, Brythunian's seem to be the ancestors of Slavs, not the Latvians and Lithuanians, their territory is just situated where Latvia, Lithuania and Poland would be in our time. Plus you already mentioned them indirectly when speaking about the Hyborians. Since Baltic refers to Latvians and Lithuanians, though if we would go back a bit it would refer to the Baltic tribes which used to have a lot more ethnic groups and such before the early modern period.

I guess the Kushites and Darfari are where all the brown people are produced :\ Shame really I would really rather be some other race other than the two for a change. I guess stygians and hyboreans but they don't have dark skinned people like that of kushites, (I think) well apart from one thrall(npc tier 4) that is of stygian origin, i guess that's to be expected because of it's inspired egyptian origins.
