I looked into the activity before the 2011 Japan Tsunami.
Regular 5.0+ quakes months before, many of them, until it finally slipped.
The signs were there.
The dynamic is the same in the Pacific Northwest, so I'd rest easy until we start seeing more than smaller quakes.

How are we supposed to prepare for the big one?

It's my understanding that the tremors in the pacific northwest are a good thing. The land is moving. If it sits idle for an extended time, then I would think the land is locked. This could be a problem. With all this movement I would think to look at the areas at each end.

I live in Washington state and St Helen's has been building a done for a while now and we watch it closely. Those quake activities are not to unusual. Everyone needs to keep a eye one the moons fullness and the barometric pressure cuz it all has a effect. Stay prepared out there. Have a peaceful day.
