What brand/model top box plate/kit are you using on your GS? (Looks great!)

Hi Carl, another great well delivered video, The HEX GS911 really is an amazing bit of kit.
I’m from the same camp as you, I just can’t bring myself to use the wick shifter on my GSA, what I can say it all makes sense and explains why whilst trying my previous 3 GS’s they all had different smoothness regarding the QS function .
Like you again if I do happen to use it then it’s when I’m cracking on from 3-4 then 4-5 finally 5-6.
For those riders that always use QS I think it’s worth doing.
Finally I think I’ll be sticking with my 2024 GSA RALLYE , I think it’s simply brilliant and top of the cream of the GS/GSA line .
Once again thanks for an excellent video & presentation .
You should be a dealer field advisor for BMW, they really could do with your years of experience and your delivery and explanation of a problem / upgrade are so easy to follow .

Again & again Carl, you are spot-on. Your explanations are clear and trustworthy. I greatly appreciate your knowledge in mechanical engineering. I will have my GS 1250 recalibrated at my BMW dealer and also practice shifting with the rpm you recommended. Thanks, Marc Quebec. 😉🏍️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦💪🏻 Proud Canadian

Carl. Clear, concise and extremely well presented!
I have a 2018 GSA which I love. It’s the first bike I’ve bought with Shift Assist. However, I’d have to say that I’ve probably attempted to up shift <20-30 times since 2018 as I found the shift quality so agricultural that it felt like changing up without engaging the clutch. I also find the gear lever seems to “resist” upwards movement when Shift Assist is attempted. Try as I might I just can’t refine the process! As as old school biker who bought his first bike (a Honda XL185) from Vale Onslow in Birmingham and whose mechanical sympathy appears to get the better of me I’ve since given up and use it very rarely on the down shift! Ironically, my GS went in for its 12k mls service at Wolverhampton a few days ago and the Shift Assist on the F900 loan bike was night and day better!
Oh well, the GS is well suited to an old fashioned clutch lever actuated gear change so I’m happy to stay old school……!

Really interesting Carl. I just reset mine twice (to be sure, to be sure) and the values before and after remain virtually unchanged (they are quite different from your values) I have always felt my R1250GS had a pretty good quickshift up and down (except 1-2) so I don't expect to feel any change at all. But thanks for the detailed description.

Another great video Carl. I’m not sure whether the recalibration should done on my 12 month old 1300GS? I’m disappointed the gearbox is just as clunky as my 1250GS. I should say I had a 1250GS ultimate edition for a while, its gearbox felt so smooth I wondered if it had come from a 4 cylinder bike!!

New to the channel and indeed to the GS (pick it up next week). Interesting you mention that the ECU adapts to sensors. Is this indirectly from the rider's input? If this is the case and as I'm buying a used GS, a recalibration may be a good idea. Thanks for a great video 👍

I'm just wondering regarding the GSA1250 range of expectations, where the low chassis bike falls?

Nice video. I have two questions:
1. Is this option available for 1200 LC engines (eg. 2017 R1200RT)?
2. Does MotoScan app offer this function as well?
Thank you.

I use upshift no problems, but down is not great. I have a '23 low rider on standard suspension setting, does that make a difference? Thx.

Thank you, that was a very informative video. You explained why an R1250R I rode on tour shifted so much smoother than my 1250GS. The new 1300GS was supposed to be an improvement, but I have not seen it on mine, maybe a little worse.

Wow!! What a professional, informative and well put together instructional video. Thank you!!

I finally have the answer as to why my wife's 2019 R1250R has such a better Shift Assist Pro experience than my 2019 R1250GSA. Her's is almost buttery smooth, both upshifting and downshifting, whereas mine is usually sort of OK on upshifts but almost totally unusable on downshifts (of course, we also avoid using it on 1st to 2nd shifts).

I look forward to performing the recalibration on my bike as soon as I get a chance -- I'll leave the R1250R as it is, though.

Again, thank you for a quality video.

I been using my quick shift a lot and find it smooth as silk up shifting and down shifting
It like operating any vehicle the more you get to know the vehicle the better you get to know how to get the most out of it
One day while on a ride the quick shift was working so smoothly i was up shifting and down shifting just to do it because it was working so well ever since i use it often

Thank you for the detailed explanation, always a pleasure to learn from a serious and experienced professional. I’ve been riding a 1200RT and since last February own one of the last 1250RTs. Love the bike, but (manually) changing gears smoothly remains a bit of hit-n-miss. I’d love to hear you’re recommendations and experience on achieving the smoothest possible manual gear change on these wonderful bikes. Thanks!

Thanks Carl. The shift assist pro is the only thing I don’t like about my 2021 GS 1250, same as yours. I find it too cumbersome. It makes even normal clutch shifting often jerky. I would like to simply switch it off. Is this even possible?

Thank you Carl. As I have Motoscan instead of HEX GS-911, I can confirm that Motoscan may be used too (there is the same option for recalibration there). However, there are some discussions on some forums about need to drive the bike, nistead of heaving it on the central stand, because of clunky and shaky drive train when bike is in 5th or 6th gear on the stand, what may cause unprecise calibration. Could you please comment that? Thank you!

Carl, great video! My 2022 K1600 GTL just started having trouble with the shift assist, which made me look for info on calibrating it. Hopefully calibrating it will fix it. Are there calibrations I should be doing periodically, or just wait for the need to calibrate? I recently had to calibrate my wind screen because the automatic raise and lower stopped functioning. Thank you!

Looks like an overwhelmingly complicated procedure.
At least the Honda DCT reset takes under a minute and con be done on the side of the road immediately after your warm up ride without getting off the bike.
