You should use a heat gun paint remover to desolder every component on a pcb at once. Make sure to remove all of the connectors, caps, fuses, transistors and pdips first! I harvested components from many devices such as commodore 64's using this technique!
Ответитьman this guy could build a death star out of zx spectrum , c64,atari and bad ass transformer!!!! eg like Megatron
ОтветитьAn I did not know that one can charge alkaline batteries... I thought only rechargeable ones were fit for recharging???
ОтветитьThat doesn't work on some newer PCB's with lead free solder. I recently had this while scavenging a PCB. Even with the soldering iron, it was next to impossible even at the highest temperature. I settled for getting only the really interesting components by diluting the lead free solder with lead-tin solder so that it did melt, and then removing it with a desoldering pump or wick.
Ответитьyep......
Ответитьthere are chargers for sale that CAN recharge normal cheap batteries. if I remember corectly those chargers are more expensive tho.
ОтветитьLove how you talk
ОтветитьI hate to sound like a jack ass, and I do love your videos but do you know you just destroyed a $50 UPS for a $15 battery that could have been replaced?
Ответитьmorocco on a lm317 ???? its my coutry ? waw i din't think that my country could make that
Ответитьnope
Ответитьwtf? you can charge alkaline????
ОтветитьI demand more of this
ОтветитьYou CAN recharge an alkaline battery if it's no more than 4% discharged. I've done it myself. The thing is, charging produces gases, which build up too fast... and then there's irreversible polarization when you discharge too far.
ОтветитьAyo, whats with those green resistors? I've scavenged a few of those and when tested they all had nearly subohm resistance.. Did I just fry these guys when desoldering or are they something special?
ОтветитьYes, but only about 20 times.
ОтветитьYou know you can buy new batteries for your UPS to make it work again, right?
ОтветитьSo I've been bying recharable batteries when i could just buy regular ones?
Ответить0:23 I instantly thought of xkcd.com/37/
ОтветитьXD You literally read my mind.
ОтветитьOnly a person with an IQ lower than my apartments radiator would give this video a thumbs down, this video was quite edifying and very interesting. It was nice of the person to take the time and share this valuable information.
ОтветитьAnd funny. Don't forget funny.
ОтветитьSubbed, funny as hell
ОтветитьA huge ass transformer....
Ответитьhi, can I install battery car in my old UPS?
ОтветитьSeems to be a waste of a perfectly good UPS is the battery was the only reason why it was crap. I found two in the trash a couple weeks back. One was bashed to pieces by the kids that threw it away. But the second one still works. The battery was bad. But I happened to have a spare that fits! :D So now I got something that would have cost over $100 to get. (It's an APC Back-UPS CS 500 by the way). I already have an alkaline battery charger though. :P
ОтветитьYes. You would have to extend the wires outside the case to reach the car battery as it will not reach. Any 12v battery that is of the same battery chemistry should work. Just know that car batteries are not designed for deep cycle use and they will have considerably less life span then if you used a similar capacity deep cycle SLA. ;)
Ответитьi wouldn't, not unless you have the battery routed outside to a box or something because a car battery exploding in your house is not fun. bottom line don't do it with a car battery they are not built for deep cycles and will heat up and probably blow fuses, get a deep cycle AGM marine battery and that should work better and be alot safer, still wouldn't recommend keeping the battery indoors though just in case.
ОтветитьHow much for your transformer
ОтветитьI suppose I was looking forward to just 15 seconds of the build in such a way as to be able to follow it to completion.
Ответитьwhy wouldn't you just put a good battery back in it? A lot of factories replace the emergency exit sign batteries every two years, and just toss them whether they're good or not... just ask and get PALLETS of free batteries. I do it, maybe you can too
ОтветитьThat's awesome! I have an old UPS. I'll follow your voltage Regulator project. :D
ОтветитьА батарею заменить не судьба?
ОтветитьWait you can recharge alkaline batteries? Since when?
Ответить+KyleCarrington ICs are way more painful!
ОтветитьSimply change battery and your "old" ups will be "new"
ОтветитьJust a quote from wikipedia: "Low-ripple direct current is not suitable for charging disposable alkaline batteries; more suitable is a current pulsed at a rate of 40 to 200 pulses per second, with an 80% duty cycle" There are other projects to charge Alkaline batteries. Namely ones that use a 555 timer to archive this pulse.
ОтветитьWould it be useful to do this to a computer power supply? Also, what useful things can I salvage from a computer tear down?
ОтветитьDoes it mean voltage makes no difference here, and I can take this 12V to charge 1,5V battery ? Is is only about reducing current ? If so, how do I stop charging battery looking at its voltage ? During charge it will be huge probably, far above 1,5 V
Ответитьbut isn't that a non rechargeable battery ?
ОтветитьThis is great! You don't need all the parts in a UPS anyway since the Power Supply on the computer only converts the inverted power back into DC anyway. All that converting is wasteful. It's better to find a way to directly connect the battery into the power supply.
I learned recently from an Instructable that you don't even need an inverter to run most power tools. That 'ible suggested stacking seven 12volt batteries to get the voltage up, but I'm thinking it will be fine to use one battery along with a capacitor array to get the voltage up. I need to make a 9amp plug-in electric chainsaw work on battery power just long enough to cut one tree.
I hope you will use these ideas in a future video.
Hi, I came here from EEVblog, where Dave had given you a goood, positive report. As an EE myself I appreciate that you are doing videos on "the basics" (Rs, Ls & Cs) as well as more complex & interesting topics - "interesting" to those of us who already grok the basics that is.
NOTE - recharging an alkaline AA battery @ 160 mA will take a long time, but we MUST do low current to avoid EXPLODING AAs - do NOT be tempted to recharge @ higher current!
Recommended? No? Just me then.
Ответитьam I the first one who got this video recommended after 13 years ??
some of the comments here are 8 years old 😂😂
No Wonder its a piece of crap that doesnt work! It has a Huge ass Transformer!
ОтветитьEverybody gangsta till you hear a loud pop with white liquid coming out.
ОтветитьThanks, appreciate your videos.
ОтветитьThat is just wrong 💀
There is NO WAY u just charged an alkaline battery
