Sorcerer I'd rank lower, due to complexity. and I'd swap fighter and Pally. Everyone loves the Battlemaster, but not me, their battle maneuvers just don't impress me. I know they can be handy, but the base fighters main good thing is action surge, (second wind is weak), the additional asi are good, but not better than the pallys spells and smites. but its all just opinions..
Ответитьdid you know that a lv.2 artificer can take out a Tarrasque
ОтветитьWith the Rogue, Most of what you said is accurate, except with the Swashbuckler subclass. Congrats, you just got the best part of the Mobile feat at 3rd level as you no longer provoke attacks of opportunity on enemies you attack (hit or not). This means you can take a different feat at 4th. If you get to play a Variant Human or Custom Lineage, you essentially now have 3 feats at level 4. If you can't figure out how to make that OP, Just play a fighter. Oh, and add your Charisma bonus to initiative rolls and sneak attack anything you're within 5 feet of as long as nobody else is also within 5 feet (which you should be able to manage pretty much all the time if none of the other conditions let you do it).
ОтветитьMy only opinion about this is Warlock I think should be higher at least A tier personally. Yes they Eldritch Blast a lot (but they get great invocations to augment and change their Eldritch Blast) but they also have great spells, can summon crazy familiars like an invisible Imp, regain spells on a short rest, etc. And even if they do Eldritch Blast a lot, so what? I mean do you get mad at a fighter for using its melee attack a lot, or Rogue for sneak attacking all the time? The Sorcerer in my group 75% of the time is casting Magic Missile or Fireball. I think quite a few classes have repeat things (certainly melee classes do). You could almost call a Warlock a half caster class with Eldritch Blast being its "attack" and then sprinkled in with other spells (well maybe Hexblade is half caster and Eldritch Blast build is 3/4 caster). Maybe i'm bias because I enjoy playing a Warlock.
Great vid tho!
Good video! I liked how you weighed the classes by different factors, not just raw power, to come up with how fun they were to have at the table :)
ОтветитьAbout the monk, they're my favorite 'passifist' class, or more correctly, non-lethal class, becouse they punch people, making lots of small melee weapon attacks, usually dealing bludgoning damage, which is the least realisthically lethal damage (dispite the rules about melee atacks doing non lethal damage, my GM has in the past given me flak about dealing 32-34 percing damage to a kobold as a rogue, using a dagger... And thematically, it makes more sense that a punch, rather than an attack carried out with a stabbing, or slashing weapon knocks someone out, rather than kill them outright). I have tried playing non-lethal rogues, and the best one there is like a thief rogue, using a bunk of items, like caltrops, and ball bearings (I actually managed to kill someone with caltrops by accident)... Later one a thief rogue is also really good at using varius posions that induce the incapacitated, or unconcous condition, to bypass enemies (in addition to things like stealth, atlethics (climbing) and social skills to avoid conflict).
ОтветитьI disagree about the Druids always having to be hippies, the desingers have said that Druids were balanced around wearing medium armor, and that the only thing stopping them from doning metal armor was tradition (or something like that), so it isn't hard to justify, particually if you find the sage advice entry, a druid going against the hippi archetype and doning metal armor becouse they don't want to get with the progam... Errr, does that just turn them into a diffrent hippy archetype. Still druids can be flavored in more than one way, and wildshape, while situation has it uses even for non-moon druids (like the Druid in my party who transformed into an Axe Beak with movement speed 50 to get another party member away from undead hordes chasing them).
ОтветитьI also assume No fun hasn't played any other edition of D&D.
ОтветитьI love that he hates Artificers because they don't get random useless magic items. Every Artificer always starts with the Jar of mayo.
ОтветитьFighter is boring. My apologies. I like cantrip-focused warlocks with eldritch blast.
ОтветитьIs this from a PC or DM perspective? It’s hard to tell the POV you are coming from and the criteria you are using. This risks sounding inconsistent and most of the reasoning sounds like old arguments from a curmudgeonly DM.
ОтветитьI’m loving your channel
ОтветитьFavorites to play are Barbarians and Warlocks. I just have an easy time getting past the character sheet for those classes, have a strong internal motivation, and just play the character instead of the class. I'm sure there are others that do this too, but I DM a lot more than I play.
ОтветитьDamn, I wouldn't have put Barbarian near that high, since it's imo one of the most boring classes to play.
ОтветитьYour listing is based on battle and not on exploration nor role-playing (you lightly touch exploration in rangers but that's it).
As a result, I'll place paladin lower; all the oaths except for oathbreaker restrict role-playing and interaction, as well as put conflict between party members (which is why rogue paladin relationship is a meme).
I would put warlock higher for the same reason with that pact relationship making good role-playing or even a side quest to save your warlock friend.
I'll place sorcerer in S as well; sorcerer points is so strong that it's the ideal caster to multiclass with and it's why Tasha alleviated this by putting a feat for it instead.
I like artificier for what it was intended to be honest. Intelligence is the dump stat for a lot of players for some reason and investigation is an ability check used often for finding traps or key. Why have the rogue disarm a trap when artificier is the engineer specialist? If you want to add randomness to the class, go the alchemist route. Furthermore, before artificier, I would go on campaigns and hear DM and players saying "we need a rogue [wizard]" probably for the reasons above. I personally advocate for freedom and another intelligence specialized class adds to more choices.
Lastly, I would place monk at the very bottom. And that's from someone who has a monk tattoo and loves monk anesthetic wise. Their abilities are circumstantial, I don't like how their multi attack still have a chance to miss (I was often frustrated playing the class cuz of it) and only some builds have ranged attacks
As an 3E player which skipped 4E entirely the opness of the Paladin in 5E seems to me plenty fair due how crapy was in 3E to need to have 4 good atributes as a Pally just to be "meh tier" and how unbalanced tends to be the leveling for pure magic casters in fantasy games compared to weapon centered fighters. So seems fair to be an excellent support partner with average damage which when is needed can vaporize foes.
Ответитьbattlesmith artificer is a really great class but yes as a dm it can be less fun
ОтветитьWizard should always be top tier. I’m glad you recognize that. I’m enjoying your videos.
ОтветитьFun ranking! Paladin is super powerful in 5e and can do so much offensively and defensively, I'd have to put them at S tier. I would rank Bard lower from the reasons that you mention - would rather see unique songs or dances rather than just a full spellcaster. I also like monks a lot more than most people, I like spending and getting back a unique class resource every short rest. Rogues are a bit boring in 5e for the reasons you outline - their subclasses don't do much, though I think Tasha's added some neat ones!
ОтветитьHey Trevor! Always great to see the content you put out! I would say Paladin is currently my favorite class although I will admit that smite might be a bit too strong!
ОтветитьI've played a fair bit of battle smith artificer since it was added as an unearthed arcana option. (R.I.P Arcane weapon) and I can confirm that it is a terrible class compared to the others. It doesn't really have a specialised role that it fits well into and does a little of everything, But it's been a tonne of fun to RP as an engineer for me personally. My character stayed up one night so that he could affix a secret beer barrel to the underside of my group's travelling cart and nobody in the party knows where my character keeps getting tankards of beer from while we are out on adventures.
ОтветитьConan was a huge philosopher
ОтветитьBloodhunters: “Am I a joke to you?”
ОтветитьIn a short session which should have been a oneshot at first I played a DMs nightmare.
An inquisitive rogue halfling with lucky feat 😂
I also enjoyed playing a monk, but like you mentioned the fun stuff is coming pretty late in the game.
I've loved the ranger even since its PHB days so I went in fully expecting it to get dragged again but here it is in A tier! Finally my favorite class gets some love!
ОтветитьMy friends and I are of the opinion that Rogues are really good. Uncanny Dodge and Sneak Attack are boss abilities. And while I love Warlocks, I do agree that they lean on Eldritch Blast way too much. Cool list as always Sir!
ОтветитьArtificers and Warlocks are definitely at the bottom.
At the top are Monks, Sorcerers, Clerics, Paladins, and Fighters are the best.
Wizards should be high too.
Rogue is my favorite to play. They can do a lot. Best RP for me is a Warlock
ОтветитьI rank the barbarian, bard, and the rogue up there. The fighter, cleric and wizard are still cool.
Do you remember the bard from 1AD&D? That’s something I want to play.
I think 5e needs prestige classes but that’s just me.
I love your channel man
ОтветитьPersonally I would put cleric, wizard, and paladin at the top and bard, druid, and ranger at the bottom. The rest would be in the middle somewhere. This is mostly influenced off of high-level play bc I've never played below 9th level before
ОтветитьSeeing many of these list, I agree with this one most of all. For me Artificer is a hard no in my games as well as guns. No ships with cannons. If some one wants to play with guns play Boothill or some game that is designed for that. Some for different reasons but your list is on point for me for the most part. I do like it when people play more of the original 3 as you call it. There is still so much fun there. Currently playing in a campain with a Fighter,Paladin,Rouge and a Bard. Absoulute crazyness without all the "new stuff" most of which is either op or not much help stemming from the tun of play I watch online in comparison. Also there is only one magic item being used and we are now lvl 7,fun can be had without magic item overload.
ОтветитьAnd kalashtar barbarian is s tier change my mind
ОтветитьWizard is s tier change my mind
ОтветитьFirst
