Am not sure it's valid comparing a Dollar General HEAVY DUTY and Harbor Freight batteries (neither alkaline) against a Duracell ALKALINE battery. That's like comparing a VW bug to a Porche, yup? Then comparing an Energizer Lithium (expensive rechargable) battery against alkaline batteries? Sorry, I have to call this test seriously skewed. Might as well compare an automobile battery to a AAA. Now yes, if we throw price out the window and just want a long-lasting battery and we're not in cold weather, go with that killer Lithium battery. But it doesn't really tell us which is the best AAA alkaline battery on the market or how the Amazon Basic stacks up against EverReady, Duracell and Rayovac (although we might be able to sort it out of all that raw data).

I like whatever battery has the longest 'sit in a thing forgotten without exploding' life. Because I can't tell you how many remotes and flashlights I've replaced because the battery leaks before I remember to change it. :) I usually go with Amazon Basics.

I like all your videos and think they're very helpful however this one that shows the comparison between alkaline batteries had one flaw that is the Harbor Freight batteries you used were heavy duty they were not alkaline so it wasn't a fair comparison. Heavy duty batteries are old technology and have far less capacity as alkalines across the board always. I'm not sure that you realize this or it was an error but it would be nice if you could comment and maybe update that video explaining the reason why you included them. When you get Harbor Freight batteries on sale and with a coupon they're price is hard to beat (20-25 cents ea)and their alkaline batteries are pretty good and are a great value, from my experience. It's not a true Apples to Apples comparison

As always, much obliged project farm for this invaluable testing. IMHO I've used and now only use 2 battery brands/types. Rayovac and EBL rechargeable. I use a profound amount of batteries and Rayovac has never leaked. I care not if it runs less than the others, they have NEVER leaked, ever, and this with them being in a supremely hot Southern summer garage in an extremely expensive Fluke meter for years. I lost one, thank you energizer, which is/was the worst, IMHO, followed by Duracell. I will say thanks again for this channel and might swap over to Amazon basics, for I order EBL batteries from them already, yet if anyone can attest to them being leak-proof, so to speak, I'd be blessed for that insight. I have to have both, for a rechargeable won't fit in some AA compartments and a few times, I am looking at you automatic door lock, won't work with a rechargeable. This is pivotal, get a rechargeable if you can use them, less money and less waste. I have a multiple multiple pairs running solar lights along the front porch that have been in now 3 years, still working. Can't say enough about them. Thanks again brother for your assistance and insight. God-bless you and yours.

Can you do a search on Rechargeable Batteries used on Solar Garden Lights? Solar Garden Lights always come with a Battery, but the following year, they don't seem to hold a charge for very long, forcing you to buy new batteries. What is a good brand of long lasting solar powered rechargeable batteries?

I like Amazon batteries. I run multiple game cameras and they always last just as long as Duracell and energizer. Lithium are the way to go but when you need 12 batteries per camera (9 cams) they get pricey

Just dont buy them from Uline. They charge a 200% mark up plus shipping and you're lucky if they work within 2 month of recieving them.
I dont know why companys use Uline. They are such a rip off.

I work for an aerospace company. I recently saw the inside of one of the batteries we use, and was shocked to see it is a bunch of Duracells daisy chained together. From that point on, I figured, if Duracell is good enough for aerospace applications, it’s good enough for me.

One thing this doesn't cover - and I'm not sure how exactly you'd cover it - is how likely they are to leak or explode.

This is just anecdotal, but I've had far more Amazon Basics batteries explode in devices than any others I've used. They used to be my go-to, but after having to clean so many device contacts I gave up and switched to Energizer.

I learned today that NiMH rechargeables don't have this problem in the first place, so now I'm considering switching over to those entirely.

I always use Duracell. Ive tried them all but the one thing that Duracell does better than any other brand because to save money I buy batteries in bulk and so they sit around for a while. Duracell retains is function while sitting in storage better than all of them. It also handles the extreme cold better than any other. In the hot weather Energizer and Duracell seem to be about the same. Energizer seems to be about the same as Duracell with exception of the durability factor and in that aspect Energize fails miserably. At least in my experience.

It has to be a great feeling knowing the positive impact you have on folks day to day lives. I like how you make it about the subject in most objective way possible, not about you. Q: D you think the Energizer would give same ranking with D cell alkaline batteries?

I have had multiple problems with AAA batteries for riding in appliances and rapid failure of replacements following corrosion damage . A study on this would me most appreciated. By the way, vertical storage of cells seems to accelerate failure!

You should redo this test and add batteries from 'better battery company' so we can see if expensive 'carbon neutral' batteries are worth the expense.

AAA test would be great. With rechargeables, do know that they're not made for things like flashlights. I used them in my head lamp (hands free light on my head) and they last only a short time (maybe 2 hours), whereas "real" batteries last much, much longer, like maybe 8 hours. I've never tested how many hours, just guesstimating.
