Very similar things happen with police departments and 'procedurals'. Like 1/5th of all shows on American television are some form of police procedural. This is a very bad thing!

There is nothing glorious about war. At 35, I reflected back often to my teenage years, during 9/11... where my peers and adults around me stated, this is our generations Pearl Harbor. Many wanted to enlist that day. We were in middle school. Call of duty flooded the market. Most of my friends became obsessed with COD. They kept talking about joining the military every year. Some had great grades... some were average. 85% of the guys I knew enlisted after high school, leaving behind college scholarships. I told them they were indoctrinated by video games, after I mentioned that, several wouldn't talk to me. Many have PTSD now, only 2 mentioned I may have been right, for my serving and avoiding enlisting.

Honestly the only impression i've gotten from those movies is that American military arrives only right at the end when most of the characters are already dead or wounded or that the military consistently manages to displace and loose expensive hardware to terrorists or other wanna-be doomsday cultists.
