the ps2 emu runs way better with this game now even on 5k which looks really sharp

i don't understand the reputation of this game. it's unplayable to me.

RPCSX3 run this game with 60fps

Also, don't forget that there are patches on pcsx2 that allow for 60fps/1080p

Going to try this today on my i9-10900kf, 3090ti, and 32gb ram. Most importantly with a greatly updated RPCS3 and slightly newer PCSX2. Hopefully there's some gains!

This is exactly the kind of breakdown I was looking for.

As a first go-round playing Killzone, I think I'll have to opt for the PS3 HD version. I usually prefer to enjoy as close to the original experience with a game as possible, but it seems like the original had notable issues, namely the frame rate. If the devs say the HD version is the "definitive" version, then I don't feel as bad opting for it either.

I remember buying this game. Enjoyed the story but the controls weren’t as good as Socom. The draw distance and fog and level design were atrocious. Appreciated the bots in multiplayer though. Really hate that they eliminated all the good characters from the first game and kept the most irritating character in the sequels.

The framerate on the RPCS3 version is so bad

This was a good game but DAMN the weapons are inaccurate!

RPCS3 is grown a lot since 2019 - I've just been playing the game at perfect 60 fps (except for cutscenes for which I need to go back to 30 to watch)

You can fully remap the controls on the PS2 version. Don't know about the PS3 one, never played it.

One of the things about Sony and it's gaming community that I never understood was that they already had all of these great games, and the Xbox had just one with Halo. So why did they care about looking for a "Halo Killer"? I'm like "it's just one game", lol.

I got the trilogy solely for the reason to be able to play the original on my PS3.

PS2 Version is superior to the PS3 version:

Look at the muzzle flash of rifles, they look way better on PS2. The rifles also fire faster on PS2 version. The overall colors are more vibrant on PS2 as well. People actually move their mouths on PS2 when they speak, on PS3 their mouth keeps closed like in a ps one game. Also the PS3 version suffers from sound bugs which the PS2 version did not have.

Good video but I miss the sound comparison! PS3 HD has a horrible sound bug: You can't hear any sound effects coming from behind the player, only front and sides. It means if an Helghast shoots you directly from behind, you won't hear it! This issue was not present in the PS2 version. I wonder if the emulator versions have this sound bug too?

And besides PS2 has aliasing, low fps and resolution: I still think it has the best color tone and gritty dark atmosphere. All other versions look washed out and too clean. The low polygon models look worse thank on PS2 because the PS2' blurriness kind of concealed it.

So PS3 version comes first mainly due to better controls and if you can't get that, use PS2 emulator. Gotcha.

This game is so important to me, I play a Lot of hours with my brother (split screen vs ai) have a lot of memories with this game

I got killzone for ps2 recently and was so excited to play the original. The opening cutscenes looked real good for the time and got me pumped for a great game. Then I quit after the first level and haven't returned to it... It's probably a good game but the low frame rate made it unplayable for me.

PCSX2 says 60fps but those are not the real fps. Internally the fps runs at lower. 60fps on PCSX2 (or 50fps on PAL games) only means that game is running full speed but not the real fps

I played this on PCX2 it was ok until I used a scoped weapon. the game kind of broke and I am unable to see anything. Any fixes?

I like the darker grittier color palette on the PS2 version than the others but I also like the sharper, clearer, higher resolution from the PS3 version.
Why can't we have both?

What is your pc specification?

You need to configure black level on component cables. it is set as low. and HDMI as high. Looks darker than it should.

I didn't know the original KillZone was Remastered on PS3. Is it Physical or Digital Download?

Playing through Killzone 2 and 3 makes me realize how much Shadowfall sucked. Definitely gonna look into getting the first one. Played it ages ago on ps2 but I don't think I've ever finished the campaign

Damn I love this game, played it on PS2, great times. Death matches vs AI are such fun. Or just an all out free for all.
