Hello I live on the Texas/ Mexico border. My wife has had her green card for over 30 years. In those years, she's had 1 speeding ticket. No criminal record. I believe this year we will apply for citizenship. Hopefully the process will be smooth. God bless

You have to speak English to pass the test for your citizenship, don't pay a dime if you don't speak English. The Immigration Attorneys charge out your behind. I applied for my husband and it took seven years. You get the paperwork together and file a I-130 you can download at the local library or home computer. Follow the letter you received from the Immigration Office. Read which application you complete and send back. And if you came here illegally you have to complete the application that you have to go back to your country and enter legally. The Immigration doesn't let you stay although you depend on your spouse. There's a difference in the applications that follow, know the difference. It took me 7 years but, I did it 7 long years. I called the process the papers from hell.

My whole is planning to go back to my country ( Philippines) for 2 weeks for vacation and I have an assault and battery 34 years ago in my record. Nothing major no jail time it was just a ticket against me that I need to clear in the court which I did and had a provision for ten years which already expired in 2004. I was given amnesty via the 1986 Amnesty Act of Ronald Regan. If you were illegally in the USA for 5 years prior to 1986 and convicted of no crime you were given amnesty to apply for green card. Took 7 years from applying in 1986 to get green card in '93.
