common sense really, hijacking session ID is one of the oldest tricks. i've done it in many games that use sessions rather than custom servers, but some games also allow you to host your own local server and others will connect, in that case i can do whatever, i can hack infinite ammo and such.
if you connect to someone's server, then you expose all of your info, your IP and obviously session ID, which can be used elsewhere, however i'm surprised Steam doesn't use time-based encryption.
i used to mess with packet editors a lot and did all sorts of funny stuff, but i thought SSL fixed so called "man in the middle" attacks .. guess Steam devs too lazy for that.

time-based means that you can't re-use session ID or any of the data as it's valid only for that session.

It's not that mind-blowing. I will explain why. When I was a kid and CS 1.6 was the best out there, we were doing lots of servers here in Romania, where you could connect with a cracked version of 1.6. That server was made with AMX or AMXX and you could do some things with the plugins like open the disk tray on someone's computer

This can't get someone vacced. Only way for someone to get banned is for them to receive a server-sided ban. However, this is not enabled on community servers for obvious reasons. Server admins have always been able to manipulate players using plugins. There are plugins to make you jump, fly, flip upsidedown, etc., and this is a feature and not a bug. Obviously, these features means Valve can't run the server anticheat on community servers because it can't account for plugins that allow players to do things that would be illegal in competitive games like autobhop and noclip and allows admins to manipulate players. I bet a lot of clown cheaters seeing this video are gonna claim they got vacced because of this, so make sure you laugh at them if you see any in the comments.

This video made me remember that like over 15 years ago for a little while I was running CS1.6 server with AMX or AMX Mod X, and with one of it's plugins and a little bit of editing config files, I gained ability to open any connected players computers cd tray... I did have lots of fun with that, telling people I hacked their computer, but I'm a good guy so I did tell them the truth of it, that everything was ok, unless they disconnected too fast in fear.. :D

After playing CS GO for 9k I can assure you I only play against hackers even when I'm not one, also the reason is I made a hacker admin from that crazy universe these people created and they send my original account to that list of people... who are people that plays too much CS GO and they want us out of the game, as we are the ones making this public and impossible for them to continue... I'm one of those trying to make this END, cuz VALVE knew about this, they had been taking adavantage of this bussiness for years... ACTUALLY if you dig deeper my friend, you will find out that "PRO" players who are not pros at all... are all involved in this HUGE CS GO scammed. its like a pyramid scheme but with games. This session id stealing people been doing on HL2:DM for years now. Most famous server doing that is fastpath... They have servers for multiple source games yet valve still havent done anything about it. Sad.
