I grew up listening to Kate Rusby's version of this song. You guys have a talent for doing these songs I know by different artists as well, and sometimes better. Never a disappointment!
ОтветитьGet crackin me lads it's a bloody long way!!!
ОтветитьDo you think you could ever cover Billy Joel's "Downeaster Alexa"? It's one of my faves and I think I'd enjoy hearing your interpretation.
ОтветитьAs someone named Riley, i am feeling bold today now
ОтветитьBack to basics, I love it! This is where you gents shine.
ОтветитьGreat work! I first heard the song when the Wailin' Jennys did it, and have loved it ever since.
ОтветитьVery adequate 🙂
ОтветитьThere's nothing like TLJ's harmony to accompany you driving the lonely road at night. Be it happy song like Hoist Up The Thing, or the subtle one like Bold Riley, or Bones In The Ocean. Just sing along, and the night road wouldn't feel too lonely.
ОтветитьThe high part at Riley makes the song for me
ОтветитьLove the Cicada shirt! Love the song, too. Thanks, gents.
Ответить🥺 I love this video so much.
ОтветитьQuite lovely 😊
Ответитьwonderful song! The Longest Johns, you are the best! Sou els ,millors!
ОтветитьCan you guys do Court of the Crimson King?
ОтветитьBeautiful...😌
ОтветитьIt gives me shivers yet calms at the same time
ОтветитьNicely done.
ОтветитьBo-bo-bo-BO’Reillys! (Sorry I couldn’t help it)
ОтветитьBeautiful song, thank you for singing it 💙
ОтветитьThanks boys, havent heard that in ages - great stuff
ОтветитьI love that I keep forgetting when these are due (not lack of interest, I just lose track of the days). It's such a tonic to be greeted with a notification that a new one is here. Really love this one, beautifully sung by all, but Andy in lead is particularly prevalent among my top favourite recordings.
ОтветитьLifted from "Auntieshanty" site; "In 19th-century Liverpool, it was fashionable for wealthier women to wear white stockings. Each month on 'white stocking day', women went to the shipping office dressed in their best clothes to collect the 'allotment' which was the half pay of their sailing family member away at sea. Not all sailors made provision for the women to collect this allotment, preferring to take a larger advance payment for themselves, and this problem inspired the Liverpool feminist social campaigner and MP Eleanor Rathbone to demand a fairer system of providing for sailors’ and soldiers' dependants during the First World War, eventually culminating in her Family Allowances Act of 1945."
Always fascinating to learn a bit of social history through these songs. They should use songs in schools to spark children's interests.
Why don’t you guys perform like this in your concerts? During the Chicago concert my husband left. He could hear you guys outside of the hall. You don’t need the drums, the flashing lights or the raucous music. You just need the three of you. Without the nonsense, you are perfect.
ОтветитьOne of my favorite shanties!
ОтветитьEntirely adequate.
ОтветитьWake up lads TLJ just drop new song!
ОтветитьThe generated captions for this video are hilarious
ОтветитьWill you please do El Paso by Marty Robbins?? Or Sixteen Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford
ОтветитьAlways a wonderful surprise to see you guys in my subscriptions. Fantastic as always!
ОтветитьAmazing song, and vocals! That CICADA shirt really catches the eye and doesn't let go;)
ОтветитьFucking hell those voices... as a male can I say that you make me wet
ОтветитьGreat tune guys, always a pleasure listening to you fine shanty singers. Cheers 🍻
ОтветитьWaiting for The John's version of Sail The Raging Sea ( The British Tars)!
ОтветитьAdequate! 👏🎶🎵🎶
ОтветитьNeet
Ответить🫡
ОтветитьI am begging for a Nebraska video
ОтветитьCalling a convention of people named Riley
ОтветитьI'm so sad I wont be able to see you guys when you perform in the colonies!
ОтветитьNice. Next time do it better ♥ American style
ОтветитьWow JD is turned up high in this mix? It's unusual to have the bass so dominant. Very pretty tune though.
Ответить❤
ОтветитьI fell in love with this song through the dreadnoughts and love this rendition.
ОтветитьBlack Mountain Cider and Mead! Represent!
ОтветитьGentlemen, I was looking for a concertina instrumental arrangement of this tune (Bold Riley that sounds nothing like the song you sing),when I came across your arrangement. I was looking for the instrumental to play at my brother’s funeral last week because he played it on his concertina. Well, he was also an avid sailor. Your arrangement was played at his grave while the casket was lowered. It was a fitting farewell. Thank you for the gift.
