In terms of Strength: Knuckles. In terms of Speed: Shadow. In terms of Chaos Powers... also Shadow... BUT Knuckles can neutralize the Chaos Emeralds with his connection with the Master Emerald and even punch the emeralds out of Sonic (In game)(and Eggman in the movies)... then Shadow got his Doom Powers... so it's honestly pretty neck to neck imo. But I might think Shadow would have a slight advantage because he's more strategic in his fighting skills while Knuckles is a full fist brawler... but honestly you can flip a coin and it's pretty even.

tbh shadow doesnt kill good people. as many times as he fought sonic and didnt kill him. he spared silver. shadow punches tails alot but never does a lot of damage to him. he has never hurt amy, and rouge being the first female to fight, he spared her as well. he spared eggman a lot despite him being the main antagonist. shadow has even killed anyone before if im not mistaken

Actually, in the Sonic X Metarex saga, Shadow didn't win purely by overpowering Knuckles. When Knuckles caught Shadow's first spin dash and threw him back, Shadow did get injured, with blood on his lip. However, Shadow then used his speed and tactics, bouncing around to confuse Knuckles, making it impossible for him to track Shadow’s movements. That allowed Shadow to land the second spin dash and defeat Knuckles. If Shadow hadn't used his strategy, he might have lost to Knuckles' sheer strength. It was more about outmaneuvering than brute force!

Isn’t Shadow immortal? Knuckles can’t really win against an immortal bullet immune hedgehog in a DEATH battle. If it was a battle to the death, Shadow wins. If it’s a battle to win something, Knuckles wins.

This entire argument is based off Rivals 2, which came out in 2007. It's old as hell.

But let's pick apart this argument:

1) If we are to assume Rivals 2 is accurate then not only did Knuckles beat Shadow, but Rouge would have also had to defeat Metal Sonic...yeah, that's where the plot gets a bit screwy and almost falls into PIS territory, especially in a game where you're supposed to be able to play as either team and "win"

2) Even assuming Knuckles was superior at the time, Shadow has shown to be able to defeat Metal Overlord, Mephiles and a juiced up biolizard on his own in Sonic Generations, albeit with Doom powers. Biolizard doesn't even need Doom powers for really, albeit chaos control was very handy.

Metal overlord was a character that required 3 super-powered characters to fully defeat before (that included Knuckles, who's around the same strength as Rivals 2 Knuckles BEFORE going Super), that's even more impressive then base sonic defeating perfect chaos. Knuckles by comparison, hasn't shown anything remotely to that level lately.

We know for a fact that Shadow has long surpassed the Knuckles who may or may not have once defeated him. Whether Knuckles has kept up is a different question altogether, we do know Shadow is capable of mostly keeping pace with current modern sonic, capable of dodging his attacks until distracted.

3) Shadow has defeated Sonic, kind of, in Sonic Prime. No chaos emerald required*. Which, whether you all like it or not, is both *recent and canon so unless you're saying Knuckles dogwalks Sonic as well, you can't say he clears Shadow.

4) Shadow only lost to Sonic in Sonic Generations due to getting distracted and caught off guard after being conflicted over whether he should use his Doom spear on him or not. He was knocked down momentarily at most by Sonic before getting back up. I think he was down for 8 seconds tops.

5) Shadow has always been the more relevant character between the two. Whether that's Shadow the Hedgehog, Episode Shadow, or Shadow Generations, he's always going to have that natural edge over Knuckles in debates like these and after the success of Shadow Generations, the gap will only widen between them further.

In 3rd party media, aside from Archie Comics I think, he tends to beat Knuckles, Boom (joke), Sonic X, movies, etc.

(The fact that you showed the Sonic MOVIE clips was even worse given what Shadow did to Knuckles that you ignored, lmao)

Knuckles is stronger and has more battle IQ and experience since he's a warrior but Shadow is also the ultimate form so he would have a lot of more abilities then knuckles so unless Shadow has the master emerald Knuckles probably just gonna keep constantly smashing him into the ground and probably win

Knuckles is a regular echidna, a warrior and guardian with massive strength yes, but he was still born naturally.

Knuckles can definitely hold his own against shadow but what holds him back is lack of long range attacks.

Knuckles technically IS the most powerful one here, since his power is natural and he had to build upon it from scratch while shadow was kinda given all of this abilities outright.

Knuckles is also a person of mercy and forgiveness with friends to keep him grounded and calm

If knuckles never had his friends, he’d probably be a much bigger threat than shadow.

Sure, outside of Mighty, Knuckles is tops in the strength department... but Shadow was never about raw strength. Plus, you can't say Knux beats Shadow regardless of the inhibitors when you couldn't even measure how strong the Mephiles clones were... that's just speculation at that point. Still, I agree that Knux has him fist to fist with them on... but that's kind of it. We just know that his inherent powers are unleashed when the inhibitors come off... that's not the same as saying his hands become hard as steel when that happens (which would be ridiculous).

Knuckles's power is really inconsistent.
He is able to beat Shadow or almost beat him depending on the medium, then he loses to Sonic or draws and gets one shotted by Blaze in Sonic Rush, Blaze who is able to stalemate against Sonic in a fight.
