Night sight video 👍

So more AI on top of existing AI instead of finally adding better camera modules. If Google simply put high end modules and added their AI they could have the best camera.

I really hate Android's way of over sharpening everything in a video, which is very unnatural and just overall degrades the video in comparison to videos taken from an iPhone.

I found the original day views more interesting than the boosted views. But the night views is where the video booster really shines. It fills out the dark spaces and adds more beauty and depth to the overall pictures. Thanks for comparing the day/night and original/boosted for us. I have the new Pixel 8 Pro. I look forward to taking night time videos now.

It's a good feature, but having to enable it everytime is a chore and easy to forget. Why can this not be applied to any video I've taken?

From what I see, during day time, video boost is shifting the tint away from magenta, and brightening the shadows, which is closer to what Apple does, and I like it. Looks and feels more natural. And, the night time video is much brighter, and looks really pleasing. The difference is definitely more noticeable too. I hope Google can do these on device next year.

Can’t be the only one who doesn’t like night shots and videos being so bright that they look absolutely nothing like the actual scene. Night shots should stay night shots, not turn into artificial day shots.

Is the "original" in this comparison, the unedited version you get when using video boost, or is is it a comparison with the HDR version? When turning on Video Boost, the 10-bit HDR is automatically turned off. When recording in Video Boost, two versions are created, the unedited version, and the video boost version -- In this case the video boost looks way better than the unedited version in most cases. BUT... What I'm having a harder time determining is if the video boost version is much better than the standard 10-bit HDR version ??

Video boost is more about a show of Google's AI knowing what things are supposed to really look like and executing it well, as opposed to video improvement software. Video boost is an advertisement of the progress and strength of Google's AI. Google does with software what apple is doing with hardware. I'm suuuure this is giving apple a moment a great pause.

There are a couple of advantages of video boost that are not clear from watching this (when compared to non-boosted 4K video):
1) The detail of the videos is generally better when you are looking at full resolution
2) There is much less noise, especially in less than perfect light
3) The file size is actually smaller by quite a margin, especially in less than perfect light (mostly because of less noise and more stable video, I think)
4) Smaller file sizes means video playback is less demanding, giving better quality on lower-end computers
For me, it is a great improvement and I think Google can build further on this. E.g. More lenses supported, possibility to choose from different profiles before shooting (e.g. increased contrast), support for cinematic blur, possibility to automatically remove lens flare.

Video Boost does amazing things at night, but is kinda useless when you've got a video with good lighting.
And I really don't like the way it's cropping the video to stabilise it.

Video boost is great for what it was designed for, It boosts the light in any dark scene, Some night time videos were impossible to take, now you can take them. I noticed the stabilization is much better in some cases with video boost. In daytime videos you may not want your video boosted, so don't use it. I definitely would not use video boost on every video I take. It's not designed for that. Some believe you can just take any video and video boost will make it amazing. That's not what it is for. It is a tool to use if you need it.

Looks like the "original" is the barely processed 1080p temp video Pixel 8 Pro captured while also capturing the extra quality pre-boosted video. Not a valid comparison as besides the resolution difference, the temp video probably don't even have regular processing because most of the SoC is processing capturing the high quality video

Google Pixel 8 Pro boasts a new feature called "Video Boost," which enhances video quality by uploading footage to their servers and delivering HDR versions back to your device. However, this feature is currently limited to the Pixel 8 Pro. My question is, does this limitation stem from the 8 Pro's specific hardware, or can it be implemented on other devices as well? If storage limitations are the concern, offering Video Boost as a paid add-on within Google Photos, similar to additional storage tiers, seems like a fair solution.

Unless you're using a separate phone to record the 'original', it's not really an accurate comparison of with and without video boost since you're using the temporary preview clip as the original, which is stuck at SDR. I've been testing it out myself and I think it works pretty well for a new feature. My only complaint is that it's limited to only the primary sensor. Anyway, thanks for the upload and cute pup!

Someone needs to train an AI model on millions of images taken with expensive professional cameras, that then boosts images/ videos in that way.
