You should warn ppl that chickens attract flies. They also poop everywhere. So the no-smell thing is not completely honest. You will also attract rodents.
ОтветитьHomegrown beats store bought all day long...definitely worth the investment for that one reason alone (for me)
ОтветитьWhen comparing the cost of chicken eggs versus from the store, you really need to price out the best eggs at your grocery store. Because your eggs are going to be healthier, possibly more nutritious, definitely fresher than anything at the store. When breaking down those costs, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. 😂
ОтветитьGreat info! Thanks, Guys.❤
ОтветитьWhat’s up with the snake on the coop handle
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьAt the beginning of this video, the fake snake really had me going 😅😅 🐍
ОтветитьThe chicken wire that he rejected as too flimsy, is unfortunately a product of our time. That classic looking chicken wire used to be made quite a bit heavier, I have seen it amongst my grandparents things, but things have been made cheaper and cheaper, more and more lightweight over the years and now if we want anything of decent quality it has become very hard to find. Even with hardware cloth you have to be careful because some of it is made very flimsy too. Don't be afraid to compare products and look at materials from several different sources before you invest your money. It's kind of like what they were saying about checking out the regulations in your community beforehand. You don't want to spend a bunch of money and then find that you could have done better with the same money elsewhere.
ОтветитьHow do you know eggs prices getting crazy? Yes you are true in your statement. Here in Pakistan eggs price already going crazy 40 rupee per egg. Unbelievable.
ОтветитьI hear the composting bedding pays for them even more than eggs do!
ОтветитьWon't rats come to our houses can you make a video of that please?
ОтветитьExcellent video. Very concise and informative. No wasted time. Thanks guys.
ОтветитьTheres a lot of great information in this video, but i think the economic analysis is misleading. if youre considering keeping chickens to disengage with capitalism and our f'ed up food system, building a coop out of reclaim materials can easily be done for $100. While I only have 3 chickens which thus doesn't require as much space as perhaps 7 or 9 chickens, I still managed build my coop for less than $60. I reclaimed pallets and a piece of tin roofing for free and have a simple design. After keeping them in the coop/roost for two weeks (method called soft release or penning) I could let them free range. Only thing I purchased was some mesh fencing. I will admit though, the only predators in my area are stray cats, and i have a fenced in yard
ОтветитьDuded eggs 1pc in Philippines 10 pesos worth , that's much money for only 1 pc😅
Ответить10,000 dollars lol how much are eggs again
ОтветитьHaha we share a name . You must be a outstanding guy Jacques 😅
ОтветитьI let’m loose into my expired garden, have them till it for me, poop in it, Then I get the nice high in Nitrogen soil. You know it is good to go see them and check on them, Say hello. Yes I got a egg eater or two. So I stuck some wooden eggs in the nest boxes. It helps. My Guinea and chickens love those mealyworms.
ОтветитьEGG SONG COMMENT: You said the egg song is 'before and during' them laying eggs. In our case, it's actually AFTER. We had a few that we always saw on our wifi cam doing a loud 1-2 minute egg song AFTER laying their egg. It was so loud that we sold them because we felt it likely annoyed our neighbors 50-100 ft. away. They also used to do an egg song if they were high up in the pecking order and another hen was taking too much time using their own preferred nest box. Luckily, 50% of our hens have no egg song, so it's quiet for the neighbors. The only other time they are loud is when a fox/coon/hawk is nearby.
ОтветитьShould cover outdoor run - disaster could happen.
ОтветитьQuestion: Do any chickens ever get trapped out of that door when it closes? Ever even occasionally?
Ответитьive always wanted to keep chickens when i "grow up" and move to a permanent place.
it sounds like a lovely hobby with some fresh eggs as a bonus
Great work there!😊
ОтветитьBumblefoot is common when you have square roostingbars, you need round bars in the coop for them to roost on, with a diam of about 2,5 1/4 inch.
ОтветитьLinoleum on coop floor? I'm bldg a chicken shack now and that's in thinkin
ОтветитьWas that a snake on the chicken coop bar at 2 minutes into the video?
ОтветитьYou don't "make" trials and tribulations, you "have" trials and tribulations.
ОтветитьThis is a millionaires garden, legit, I've never seen Kevin really build anything, if we all gardened that way it would be a waste of time. Sorry Kevin, but it's been really noticeable, I love that you love gardening and appreciate the vids, but how about doing something that doesn't cost a bundle? I saw Jacque build a $400 herb bed, like c'mon, it's gardening, you can literally do it in a field.
ОтветитьBut aah they are not eating the vegetables ploughed there?
ОтветитьAm I too southern and immediately saw that copperhead on the 2x4 clean out door bar?
ОтветитьI have to say, I added chickens to my life this July. I have not gotten any eggs, YET. But Everyday I love going to to see my nuggets that I have been hand raising. They rush to the door making all kinds of sweet noises. They are perfect listeners! Wish I did this sooner. Sometimes I sit on a chair and just hang out, so relaxing.
ОтветитьI have 3 chickens and one rooster😊! They have a nice mini barn for winter months.
They cost me a LOT to just winterize for them!!
I'm trying to buy a house that has a chicken coop, but the owner has had a very bold racoon kill a couple of flocks in broad daylight. I'll need to really secure it if I want to raise chickens.
ОтветитьGreat video guys!!!❤
Ответитьseems like you cant make money from this and i what i mean is if i buy 1 year worth of eggs if it costs me 1000$ i imagine raising your own would save you like 50$. thats crazy. i dont get it (and i havent done the math but i bet you thats what it is. same with a garden)
ОтветитьAre these guys fudge packers?
ОтветитьGood stuff
Ответитьwhich country are you from ?
ОтветитьI have an extremely sensitive nose. I have had chickens a little over a year now and have not had any smell issues. The only thing that smells is one particular poop and that is the brown poop that happens maybe once a day once every couple days. But the smell dissipates quickly. The overall smell is not existing. I use the deep litter method and I have no issues with smell.
ОтветитьGreat! Great! Video, guys.❤ Thanks again,😅 I learned a lot🎉
ОтветитьThat's a lot of BS tbh.
ОтветитьI have been around chickens most of my life I am 55 years old and still have chickens.
All seem to make it harder than it has to be opened bottom Chicken Coop works better. You put down a heavy mulch/leaf/grass clippings
About 6 to 8 in deep in the bottom the chickens will get down in and scratch in the poop and compost it down you come back and clean it once a year it is extremely good for the garden our flower.
When chickens get bored they start bullying. When chickens have good and lots of places to scratch they are happy and leave each other alone. If you're able to open up and let them out into a large fenced-in yard their eggs will have a prettier yolk and taste better. I remind myself of this same all the ! (time keep it simple)
Hi, I have kept chickens for fifty years and really like them. Before taking chickens on realise that responsibility for their care and safety is on the owners, foxes or other predators are just following nature, we should ensure the security of our birds, not blame predators for taking a free meal!
