As a 12-year-old, I recently found out that my parents have already selected the man I will marry in the future, I don't like him at all. He's my mom's friend's son and he is 17. She also said that I must get married between 18-25 of age as women get 'less attractive after that age. I'm really scared of my future. I want to be an animator, but my mom thinks it's useless, i said I want to work and get my own property before marriage, she said that might be impossible. I just want to be alone, be an animator and make people in the internet laugh to some silly videos of my work, not marry off to someone who they have already decided. I told my mom that I won't marry someone I don't want to (not telling her the fact that I knew about her planning) and she said, 'I must have a good reason'. I think not liking the guy should be a good reason. I don't have big plans for future, it's just getting a small (or big if possible) place where I'll stay in rent for some time as I do work AND animating as I know one doesn't simply get millions. And IF my work is succeeding and I'm being payed enough, I'll buy an apartment and THEN I'll marry IF I WANT.

I hate how they called it a tradition. Thousands of years ago, the culture in Saudi Arabia was one of marrying minors but their partners were responsible and this is not how it works. This has no justice at all, including making people's lives difficult and intending to marry just because they want to ask for help, if that's the case, why not just ask for a helper? Thank goodness I don't live in Pakistan. This is a suffocating thing. If I was the leader of Pakistan, I would definitely abolish these arbitrary 'tradition'. Those folks who do this tradition are weirdos to me.

I know people say we should respect it and all but one day being a normal kid next thing you know your pregnant and your husband who is like 15 years older than you gets mad for not being able to give birth properly?! And in Nepal, they make a little girl a god and worship her and when she starts her period, they make some other girl the god. I respect their cultures and all but this? It’s normal for a girl to get her period and those people make her feel unholy because she’s being normal. Allow me to actually have a mature analysis of the situation. I see people using the word “pedophilia” very liberally without even using it in the correct definition.
Pedophilia implies sexual relations with a prepubescent (aka an actual child that’s normally under the age of 11-13). If the person can procreate meaning they have their adult hormones fully functioning, then that’s called an adolescent (aka a young adult) which means they are an adult but with a developing brain (an underdeveloped frontal lobe which controls impulse) until the age of 25.

Now people in the modern day have education and agency is a human right. But by having someone fulfill the role of an adult at such a young age (for instance not having them finish education) without being properly prepared is called grooming and leaves groups of people indentured or vulnerable (which is also what leads to human trafficking)

Child marriage has changed from its orginal form. When a girl and a boy where young, parents would start to arrange their marriage. Upon finding a suitable match based on commonalities, and astrology they would be an agreement between parents that the children would marry at the appointed time.

When a girl reached puberty, at that time it was usually between 13-16, a girl would go live with her future husband family. Until she becomes of age to officially marry the boy.

While she was living with his family she was to be trested like a desr family member, little to no alone interaction with the boy. She would learn the family customs and how to serve her future husband.

Girls minds were peaceful knowing they would marry and be taken care of for the the rest of their life.
