I can’t blame her for being so excited lol

That’s not blunt, that’s just the normal genuine answer in that kind of situation. But the woman seemed more thrilled than just shallow, maybe that’s the American mindset feeling jarring to European (and Brits!).

Inexperienced interviewer doesn't know how to ask better pointless questions at a nothing-special event. This is cringeworthy but what does one say to the winner of an industry award, one that Sinead O'Connor eschewed?

To her credit she just rolls with it, doesn't even lose her energy. And judging by his little smile I think she actually won Robert over just a little bit.

Both times that I met Robert Smith he was absolutely nothing like that. I would have loved to have had an actual conversation with him, especially about music, but he was very standoff-ish and shy to the point where he really wouldn't say much. I asked Lawrence Tolhurst at his book signing if that's how he really was ALL the time a couple of years ago. If you've ever seen the Cure or clips of Robert looking at the people in the front row when he just sorta stares, smiles, and maybe makes faces at people then you will understand how he was when I met him on each occasion. (once on the Swing Tour 1996 and once on the Curiosa Tour 2004)
