Hell yeah The Fisherman! My book club read it this month. Book of the year candidate for me. I loved it.
ОтветитьKindle. Biggest ebook selection and affordable, relatively speaking.
ОтветитьIve had the fisherman on my shelf for a couple years and i really need to dive in!!
Would love to hear your thoughts on hurricane season by fernanda melchor… if you’re into super bleak stuff….
I love my Kobo! I've had it for almost 2 years now. I'm in Australia so I'm not sure what Libby is but we can connect it to our libraries and are not locked in to Apple. I hope you check it out. Thanks for the recs, love your vids ❤
ОтветитьI love my Kobo. I've had it for years. You can sync with libraries. I use mine to sync with my tablet and my laptop, so I can read on any device in any part of the house. The software bookmarks where you left off when you closed the device, and when you open the book on a different device -- there you are... right where you left off.
Ответитьthe main selling point for Kobo for me is that its not Amazon. the way they pressure authors into publishing exclusively on them just feels predatory and the fact that they keep the rights to withdraw books and EDIT texts any moment is crazyy to me
ОтветитьThe end of loneliness will always have a special place in my heart
ОтветитьI got to say that I found The Fisherman to be overrated...
ОтветитьOne word: Kobo
ОтветитьI used to think life was just about luck and hard work, but Lost Gateway to Manifestation by Victor Barton showed me it’s about something much deeper. When I finally understood how my energy was shaping my reality, everything started shifting. It’s like I had been walking through life blind, and now I finally see. I wish I had learned this years ago.
ОтветитьYes. Dude, you need to read To Kill a Mockingbird. Once you've finished, watch the film. Both are amazing.
Ответитьmakes sense why they don’t teach this in school… Forbidden Money Printing Method ebook literally rewrites the whole game
ОтветитьRegarding the Kindle, I've seen videos on tiktok saying how Amazon is going to be messing with people's digital libraries. You'll be unable to download your books off the Kindle, and more of the whole "you won't actually own the digital copies you buy" shit. I've heard the Kobos have really cool features, a downside being it completely cuts you off from the Amazon library.
ОтветитьLove "The Nickel Boys" but don't think I can watch the story on screen...just too brutal and sad... Planning to reread "The Grapes of Wrath" this year and already read "East of Eden" this year. Also loved "The Glass Castle". Excited to check out "The Fisherman" and "The End of Loneliness". Thanks for doing this!
ОтветитьI had to DNF The Fisherman because the terminal illness/grief stuff was triggering for me. If you can handle that I’m sure it’s a great book.
ОтветитьBooks ARE Nick, and you ARE sick! 🎉
ОтветитьI LOVED the Fisherman and still think about it frequently, more than a year after reading it. Think I might need to reread it soon :D Also, the Nickel Boys was really good - and yes, it is based on a real refom school, that actually existed right up into the 2000s, which is absolutely horrifying to me...If you liked the setting, you would probably enjoy The Reformatory by Tananarive Due (if you haven't read it yet, I can't remember). It's set in the same "school" (or rather, torture-prison).
ОтветитьI loved The Fisherman
ОтветитьFinding The Nexus of Silent Riches ebook should be your top priority, even if it's the last thing you do in life
ОтветитьYou guys must read Infnite Money Mastery, a forbidden book which is constantly being removed
ОтветитьAll that nonfiction and still no Into Thin Air 🙃
Ответитьbooks I read that get no hype that I read are linclon highway, the lonely poligomist and bear. I don't get why these are not talked about more. also an oldie but goodie instance at the fingerpost.
Ответитьnonfiction try patriot by navalny
ОтветитьLove Joel Plaskett!
Saw him in Kingston years ago and it was an excellent show.
Nice recs
You are correct, you can only sync Libby with Kobo in Canada. You don't technically own Kindle books, but you can license them from Amazon. This means that Amazon can restrict or remove access to your books at any time. Plus, Kobo is a Canadian company. I'm saving my optimum points to buy the coloured one.
ОтветитьNo need to apologize for marketing. That’s how we get to have great channels. Love the hoodie!
ОтветитьGorillas in the Mist is why I began obsessing about nonfiction for years. It’s so good!
ОтветитьI love my Kobo and will never go back to Kindle, mainly because we have the same situation here in Australia, Libby works with the Kobo (and not Kindle) and it works really well. I upgraded to the Kobo Libra colour last year and have not looked back 😀 I have also noticed that there has been a really change in what is available through our Aussie Libraries as well, so many more books have become available it has really been a great experience.
ОтветитьTo Kill a Mockingbird is a MUST read. It is incredible.
ОтветитьThe Grapes of Wrath is a slog well worth the time and effort. So, too, is In Dubious Battle.
ОтветитьI don't have a Kobo but the feature of being able to connect to my public libraries is something that i am forever grateful for, so just based on that I would say GO FOR IT!!
ОтветитьI loved The Glass Castle so much!
Ответитьhaving a depressive flare-up today. slept all day because I didn't want to be awake, and this is the first video I have watched that has made me smile a little bit, feel the warm fuzzies in my heart. hearing you talk about books is cheering me up a little bit. there is a lot of cool pieces of art out there, so maybe I'll spend today reading.
ОтветитьI've read three of those books two of them thanks to you. Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing and have a great week!
ОтветитьI've had a Kindle since 2010 which was when it was introduced here in Australia. It's been left in the dust by more recent models with different file systems and file formats, but still works. I updated a year or more ago to an Android reader, a Boox Leaf2. It has the Kindle app so I can still access my Kindle account, but also Kobo app and Libby and BorrowBox and other apps for linking in to my local library. I've also got a BigMe colour reader that I got for graphic novels, once again an Android system so it runs anything.
ОтветитьI’m almost finished with Stoner, reading based on your glowing recommendation. I can’t say I’m enamored with it, but I am still reading it which, with my ADHD, and perimenopausal angst, says a lot. I am so glad to see you’re being successful with booktube. You’re a super likeable dude and it’s always nice to have the company of a fellow gen-xer (at least I think you’re a gen-xer. If you’re not, I’m sorry I guessed you older than you are, but also you’re welcome 😂)
ОтветитьKobo is the way to go! Syncing with Libby is a total game changer. I spent next to nothing for books… plus side loading free books from project Gutenberg and other such places… I definitely prefer the UI to that of Kindle, so simple and no ads. I held out for a long time and just bought my first e-reader last month, Kobo Clara BW…I never read more.
ОтветитьYou mentioned photography, must now get that book. You've piqued my curiosity and interest. Moving The Nickel Boys up the list. Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors. I started with Cannery Row. I'm currently reading Bound For Glory by Woody Guthrie (memoir) which reminds me of Grapes of Wrath because he's from OK and takes place in the same era and he sets out for CA. Maybe consider adding it to yours nonfiction list. And definitely read To Kill A Mockingbird.
ОтветитьFISHERMAN so weird but I think about it all the time
ОтветитьKobo is far superior, great tech, was started as a Canadian company (now japanese), and does connect to library. And it doesn't support Amazon, the evil empire. A much better choice!!!
ОтветитьLove my Kobo! Worth it just to not be tied to Amazon, and the fact that it's Canadian is a plus. Do it! Love the recs, but I must say that I did not love The Fisherman... it started out quite promising, but I lost interest with the drawn-out story within the story, and then it got too weird for me! Look forward to reading Say Nothing and watching the tv series based on it. 😊
ОтветитьJust preordered my hoodie! Excited
ОтветитьI see The Stand in the background, it's always a good year to read that.
ОтветитьThe Red Pony. Steinbeck. He has become my favorite and I’ve been reading 60 yrs
ОтветитьThere is a movie about the Glass Castle which I LOVED! I personally hate reading a book after watching the movie..as all I can see in my head is the movie. But the movie was so good!
ОтветитьAs someone else who recommends The Fisherman effing always, the negative feedback I've gotten back has been more about the structure of the story. Certainly one of the reasons I loved it is BECAUSE of how dark it is.
ОтветитьI did not like The Grapes of Wrath in high school. I couldn't wrap my teenage brain around the last few scenes. (I should probably read it again.) However, the description of the mom early in the book about how she was the center of the family, and how she had to be strong or the whole family would fall apart...that description has stuck with me for years and now as a mom, I totally get it.
ОтветитьHow have you become THE person to make me enjoy book reviews? I don't like book review videos. But I like yours.
