Boot scoot boogy technique is great in the cage, not so useful otherwise. Having said that, the Gracies taught alot of people BJJ and changed the grappling world. Works better if you mix it into an MMA format for training. On it’s own, it could get you hurt.

One correction (with all due respect, great video) - Royce was not chosen because he was smaller - Rickson was actually the best Gracie by far, but Rorian could not control Rickson the same way he could Royce. The gracie hunter was one of my favorite fighters to watch, never pulled guard and had a wildstyle was often very interesting and fun to watch I will say. I do believe one of the gracie's beat him but he was older at that point so the loss is what it is

Because the world of MMA has moved. BJJ is no wonder to anyone. So most top level fighters can do BJJ but also are effective strikers. While Royce cant even throw a effective punch. Even if he was still at his prime he wont win. BJJ alone is extremely ineffective against someone who is also a good striker.

There's another camera angle of the Yoshida "choke" that shows Royce was perfectly fine. The Gracie's teach that if a guy has pinned you down but you're not in danger not to do anything for energy conservation. I can understand why the ref made the call, but it's disingenuous to omit that relevant information.

He stepped in, did his best, and held his own. His style changed a bit... I don't see how he failed. Royce showed balls of steel and I believe got better through it.
